CAS(E) This Sketch #275

When I make a card I usually start with the image and then decide the background but in this card for CAS(E) This Sketch I had a piece of paper the right size laying on my desk and I went from there.
In my mind that plaid meant I had to do something masculine and so I pulled out my favorite bear from EbyE and colored him and his catch with PolyChromos.  I think he looks furry but I'm contemplating getting some Gamsol so I can blend colors better.  The plaid is popped up on black fun foam.

As you can see, this is a retro sketch from waaaay back.  I've been playing in this challenge for a long time but not quite that long since I didn't find my name in the gallery.
Thanks for dropping by.

CASology #267

What do you think of when you see the word "BIG"?  That's the cue word for CASology this week.  My first thought was elephant but several others also had that idea so I kept thinking.  Ocean.  What is bigger than the ocean?

I had a panel that already had some blue Distress Ink that I cut with a deckled border die from My Craft Spot (closed.)  I spritzed the seaweed from MFT's A Sea Life and lifted some of the color.  Once I stamped the sentiment in DOX Broken China I thought it needed a little more seaweed in that color.   You can barely see them but there are some bubbles coming from the fish.

Thanks for dropping by.  I love it when you do.

12 Kits of Occasions - It's a Guy Thing

Michele asked me to be her guest for the July edition of 12 Kits of Occasions and of course I said "Yes".  She had talked about it and I had followed what they were doing so I was curious about how it worked and whether I could work within the confines of the kit.  I think I managed fine with the items in the "It's a Guy Thing" kit.

This first card came to mind immediately.
Any seagull likes his fish and so I used the little 'shaker envelope' in the kit to display his catch -  fish from EE.

This gull is thankful that there are plenty of fish in the ocean that was made with a die from MFT.

This one is going courting with some flowers from CP.  I added my own background paper and cut the gray panel with a die from N&T.

I'm sorry but I just HAD to do this next one.
I cut around the sentiment to match the clouds in the kit.  I had a white flower cut laying on my desk left from another card and it looked like a splat to me so "Watch out below!"

For this one I deviated from the seagulls and added my own EE bear with his party hat and cupcake to go with the included sentiment and background paper.

Thanks, Michele, for inviting me to the party.  To see the rest of the party goers, go over to the 12 Kits blog where you will find links to everyone's cards.

Just Us Girls #387 - Word Week

It's Word Week at Just Us Girls and Nancy has chosen Sea.
I recently had to make a seaside card for another challenge that I filled with shells but went an entirely different way with this one using the same stamp set from MFT called Sea Life.
I used Distress Oxide for the background adding some misting and a bubble stamp dipped in water. The fish and seaweed were colored with Distress Ink markers directly on the stamp and then misted.  Again the "what sentiment do I use?" cropped up until I saw this one on the MFT Polynesian Paradise set and thought it was rather cute.

The Design Team has some wonderful sea inspired cards for you to see. Check them out and then make a card of your own.  You may be our next Chic of the Week.

CASology #205 and Color Q #349

I'm off to the lake for the weekend so I have to post a couple of cards that are due Monday.  First up is the one for CASology where the cue word is 'chevron'.
The chevrons from Catherine Pooler (Stamp of Approval kit) are stamped in HA India Ink Black. The sentiment and die are also from SOA and are by Casual Friday.  'You' is cut four times, the top one in glitter paper.

Next is a card for Colour Q.  This is a card that did NOT want to be made. Here are the colors:
And here's the little trouble maker.

Seeing it next to the banner, the colors don't look quite right.  I started by stamping the weeds in London Fog and clear embossing them.  Next came the inking with Broken China and Salty Ocean -how appropriate *wink*.   I planned on some red coral but when I stamped the sentiment I messed it up and so I went with a red fish to cover it up.  That left some bare spaces at the bottom so I stamped some more weeds in gray but when I embossed them they came out dark blue.  Okay, that's closer to one of the colors but then I had three blues, so I went over the top with Salty Ocean to make it all the same.  Now I need more white than around the fish so I white embossed the sentiment.  Actually I accidentally embossed it in clear because the new ep I bought was not white.  :(  I stamped right over it and you can't see what's underneath.  I don't think I could handle two fish covering messy sentiments.  The images are from MFT and the sentiment from CB. At least I persevered and have a card for the challenge, even if it's not what I started out with, and maybe not the right colors.

Enough about my troubles.  Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend.

CAS(E) This Sketch #173

I know I say this every week but CAS(E) This Sketch really challenges me.  I think I conquered it though.
I kept trying to think of a stamp set that had three of something that would make a good card and my MFT Sea Life came to mind.  There was some finagling to get the fish and coral colored the way I wanted but I'm happy with the final results.
Can you see the sketch in my card?

I haven't done a lot of card making lately but I'm trying to keep my hand in so I don't lose all my mojo.  I'm glad you dropped by to take a peek.

Muse #158, Seize the Birthday and Fusion

Happy Easter, Everyone!

I have three cards to show you today.
#1 for Muse, inspired by Tracey's lovely flower.
The hydrangea is from PTI jars, stamped in Vintage Photo DI and watercolored by pulling the color in and adding some Peeled Paint for the leaves.  The sentiment from PB is stamped in Cup O' Joe.
Tracey's card

#2 is for Seize the Birthday - Water
I didn't have any sea shells or fish for one of my design team challenges and decided I needed something to fill that void.  I ordered the Sea Life set from MFT and made this card.  First I smooshed the background then stamped and white embossed the sentiment from PB.  The images were stamped with a variety of inks, black glaze added to the fish eyes and everything popped up.  A little Pico Embellisher makes the bubbles.

#3 is for Fusion - Everything's Owl Right
You know with my owl obsession I HAD to enter this challenge.
Knowing my obsession, my friend Joyce Mehrberg sent me a whole pile of stamped owls several years ago.  I colored with Distress Ink and fussy cut a trio of them to fit in my PPP film strip.  LF's Milo's Letters was used for the sentiment.

I'm glad you took the time to drop by.  Have a wonderful week.
