AAA #11

I sometimes give up on challenges because they a. don't inspire me, or b. aren't the kind of card I would send to anyone.  Other times I want to try the technique or use a stamp or die I haven't used before.  When I saw the challenge at AAA, I wasn't sure if I would do anything.

I've seen a lot of lovely cards with the window block on them but other than squares of patterned paper, nothing came to mind. Then I saw the Avery Elle elements die set on my desk and wanted to try the shape that would cut four panels.  Perfect.

I played around for a while before I came up with the finished card.  Originally I cut the design from white cardstock.  Okay, now what?  Then I thought of a stripe that mitered in the middle and found this paper from We R Memory Keepers.  Once I cut the shapes, I tried them on a number of background colors. They washed out on white, the orange and greens of the stripes didn't grab me, and black was too stark.  Aha! Light bulb moment.  The black in the design, and other papers in the pack, are like chalkboards.  I took my until now unused Picket Fence Distress Paint and went over the black.  I stamped the sentiment from HA in Unicorn White to finish it off.  I'm not saying I'm totally taken with this card but the playing was fun and I learned a few things.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you take time to "play around".

Hi, your card is totally inspiring! Love the shaped 4-ups and the peeled paint background. I now want to order picket fence for myself. Chevrons are still pretty popular too. It's a wonderful card for AAA Cards Challenge this week. Thanks so much for sharing, Victoria Lavender
