Checking In and TCCC #16

Well hello there!

Did you think I fell off the face of the earth?  I have been gone, taking advantage of the fact my sister is here from Denver to help out with the folks.  I spent 5 days at my son Eric's.  My daughter Lisa joined us as we painted a couple of rooms and made a tufted headboard..  I was home a day and then  spent a weekend with my son Brian and his family.  What a relaxing time that was, although I did spend part of Sunday helping my granddaughter reupholster a chair.  She bought it at the Salvation Army, picked out the fabric and wants to resell it.  My little entrepreneur - at 16. They have a pool and it was great to sit around it and cool off in it.

Good news!  My mother came home from the nursing home yesterday and so far, so good.  Continued prayers are needed as she needs to gain weight and strength.

I did manage to get a card made and it was partly out of necessity.  How great of The Card Concept to have a wedding card challenge.  My stepson is getting married next Saturday, 11 years after losing his wife in a motorcycle accident.  If you follow me at all, you know I altered a wedding dress and it was for his fiancee, Christy.

I was actually inspired by this card from Lindsay at Note to Self. The roses,  from Winnie and Walter, are stamped and white embossed on vellum, colored on the back with HA Unicorn white and cut around to make the border.  The sentiment is also from W & W stamped in SSS Surf Blue.  I'd say this is pretty classic and elegant - or clean and simple.  You make the choice.

I'm off to my daughter's in Ohio today for Girls' Week Out.  This is a tradition started 17 years ago.  It all began when I went to help Lisa paint her newly purchased house.  My mother thought that sounded like fun so the next year she went along.  My DIL Christy (not the Christy mentioned above) joined us the following year and it's been going on ever since.  A couple of years we went other places to do our projects: twice to my parents when my mother couldn't travel and once to my son Adam's when he purchased his first house.  There are no projects left at Lisa's but since the arrival of my great-grandson, it makes it difficult for Allyson to leave home so we are all going there this year.  Also for the first time, my DIL Lisa (yes, there are two Lisa's in my family) will join us for a couple of days, bringing her two daughters.   Christy has two girls, too, so there will be 3 teenagers and one wannabe (11).  We're all looking forward to some excursions, game playing, shopping, an art project and whatever else comes to mind.  I know a group will head to King's Island one day while Lisa and I take care of Noah.  I'm getting excited just writing about this, although you're probably bored to death.  I'll leave you now so I can get lunch and ready to leave.

Thanks for stopping by.  Hold down the fort and I'll be back next week.

Glad to hear your mum is home. I'm sure it will take time, but she'll feel better over time. Being in familiar surroundings is such a help for that too. And it sounds like your summer is busy, busy, busy! Nice! Such a beautiful card too. LOVE the white embossing on the vellum. This is a winner for sure!!! Have fun with the girls. Bev

This is such a gorgeous card, and it is fun catching up and see where you've been. Your family sounds like a lot of fun. Let me know if you want to adopt anyone in San Diego--you can come here and work on my projects! P,S. I sent you some owls.
