David's Birthday Card

Some challenges are easier for me that others.  I need a birthday card for my brother and the Freshly Made challenge was just the inspiration I was looking for. 

Instead of the usual A2 card, I made this one a 5 x 7 in order to use my new punch for the three elements down the side.

The printed paper is from a Studio G pack and the cake is cut from A Child's Year.  Black brads hold the sentiments on. 

It's difficult to see the outline of the card in this picture since the right half is white.  I made a photo box as directed in this post by Diane at Capadia Designs.  It works well for most photos so I don't know why it isn't good for this one.  I tried putting a different colored paper in the back but that didn't look good either.  But the card looks good. ^_^

It's Turkey Time!

Well almost anyway.  I've purchased my turkey and am looking forward to sharing it with family on Thursday.  This turkey, however, will be shared with all you followers and fellow bloggers.

I already made a card using the turkey on Simply Charmed and didn't want to repeat that so decided on this cut from A Child's Year.  It's just a silhouette but I like that he looks more like a real turkey.  I have four challenges to enter this in and I had to follow different guidelines for each. 

1. Harvest Blessing - use red, orange and brown at Fantabulous Cricut
2. Easel card at My Craft Spot
3. Thanksgiving - must use punch at Celebrate the Occasion
4. Let's Talk Turkey - use a turkey at Cooking With Cricut

The background paper is from Amber Autumn by DCWV and has the red and orange in it.  To make the turkey fit right, I ran my easel landscape fashion using brown paper.  I punched a little border piece out of an orange print and used the same paper for the sentiments.  I inked the turkey and wasn't too sure if I liked it but it does make the little cuts show up better.  He and the easel sentiment, of course,  are popped up with dimensionals.  It's not often I link four challenges with the same card but since I was gone earlier in the week, this made it easier to enter them all.  I've always envied those who could make a card fit multiple challenges and now I've done it.  Yay!

Book Lovers

I never used to be much of a book reader but when we started going south for 2 1/2 months in the winter, it gave me something to do while sitting in the warm sun.  Now I read whenever I can fit it in, usually before going to bed at night.  I'm in the middle of a wonderful series now and can't wait for the next chapter.

This week's challenge for Fantabulous Cricut is "Book Lover", make something for or with a book. 

I didn't have many book cuts but loved this one on A Child's Year.  I made my own background paper by typing a variety of "reading" sayings to fill the page.  I layered  the cut and the background with grey to keep it neutral.  I can't imagine it's very comfortable sitting on a rock while reading (lol) but it's still a good picture.

Birthday Card

I'm hoping and praying that everyone survived Hurricane Irene without too much damage.  I have two brothers and their families that live in New Bern, North Carolina, one of the hardest hit areas.  We haven't heard from them but have heard than many in the area are without power so hopefully they will contact me when they can.

This is a birthday card I sent to a special friend.  I had just used A Child's Year to make an anniversary card and thought this girl was cute.  I cut her out of purple and used the same color under the lacy border punch.

The white was embossed with my cuttlebug using Birds and Swirls and the checked piece was from my scrap drawer.  There is no sentiment on the front so it could be used for any occasion.

I just finished 7 pillow covers for my granddaughter so now I'm free to create cards and layouts.  I wonder what challenges lie in store for me this week? 

Another beginning card

I've been working on a layout today but haven't found a good way to take a picture of it.  Rather than skip a post today, I decided to show a card I made a while ago.  When I began making cards I had several boxes of DCWV colored and printed cards.  It made it easy to make simple cards.  Then when I got my Cricut, I made some trial cuts with the cartridges just to see how the machine worked and how the cuts layered.  This card is the result.

The cake is cut from A Child's Year in white with a black top layer.  The basic card is bright pink and so I thought the pink and black polka dot paper was a good compliment.  I added a sentiment printed on the computer and a strip of black paper at the edge of the printed piece.

Happy Anniversary

I love the look of the silhouettes on A Child's Year and decided one would make a great anniversary card.

I used plain white cardstock for the A2 card base and printed the sentiment directly on the front from my computer.  The background paper is from a black and white stack by Making Memories.  The oval and it's shadow are also cut from A Child's Year; navy for the shadow and white for the top layer which is cuttlebugged with Divine Swirls.  I had some matching (thankfully) navy ribbon that I ran across where the background ended. 

I'm sorry the photo quality is not very good.  I need to work on lighting.
