There's a new challenge on the scene brought to you by Virginia Lu from Yes, Virginia. The challenge is called Virginia's View. and this month it's all about watercoloring. So far there have been 259 entries which shows how much card makers like the technique but is rather intimidating to me. Some of the cards I've seen in the gallery are absolutely amazing. You need to check them out. And then there's mine.
I did a scene using a stencil from SSS, Distress Inks and white embossing powder. I don't know why the paper looks so wrinkly in the photo.
-----------------------------
For the online card class, we learned about masking. I'll give you a look at my card and then tell you one of the "must dos".
I don't have many large shaped dies so I cut my own flag from masking paper and used a die for the oval. To make the shape show up correctly you need to have your stamping go near the edge of the mask. As you can see by my missing corner on the right, I didn't get the stamp to print well enough there. This technique is great for making quick and easy cards and I will definitely be doing it again. I do need to get some more image stamps, though, and maybe a die or two. I haven't checked the follow up class for today yet, but I'm sure there will be lots more hints and how to's.
Thanks for stopping by.

Bobby, you've made two gorgeous cards. Love the layered stamping on the second and the sweet scene on the first.

LOVE both of your cards, Bobby! Your water-coloring is FABULOUS! I think the water-color paper tends to curls up a bit,...so the trick is to put the finished image (face down) under heavy books overnight (that's what I do) before you mount it on the card stock. Love the sentiment that you used, too! Thanks so much for joining the fun with the first Virginia's View Challenge! PS: the masked card is gorgeous! Well done on that one!
Love your cards Bobby! Amazing work.
Love your choice of ferns for the masked card--so original. In those tight corners on a mask where stamps won't print, I sometimes cheat and fill in with a marker.
Your watercolor scene is gorgeous and I love your ferns! I always have trouble with my masking coming to the edge. I think I need to use thinner masks.
Isn't the watercoloring fun? I've enjoyed playing with it, although most of the results will never make it near a blog post : ) That's OK though! Thanks for sharing your class lessons on the stenciling. I really love how your fern stamp fills the banner image. Gorgeous!
Oh,my gosh, I LOVE those ferns! Clever and beautiful and could be used just like this for many occasions. TFS!
Your scene is lovely, that embossed cloud is nice and bright making one think of beautiful summer days. Great first attempt at your masked and stamped card too.
Such a pretty scene! The sky looks amazing! And your masking technique looks super too! I'm thinking that I might even be able to do that!! I'm excited to give it a go!
