Muse: Christmas Visions #35

Chriss has a beautiful CAS card for us over at Muse: Christmas Visions.
I was inspired by the holly and the sentiment although my holly is larger and the sentiment smaller..
I used a Tim Holtz stencil and masked off the berries to save them from being green and tried to keep away from the stems as much as possible. Well guess what?  I didn't think about the space above the stencil (it's narrow) and when I pulled it up there was ink where I didn't want it.  A MFT border die to the rescue and I like it even better than I would have as a one layer card.

Now I have a question for you.  Or rather two questions.  First, how do you get your gold embossing to show up as gold instead of black in a photo? This one is actually Liquid Platinum but it still show up as black.  Which brings me to my second question.  What is a good gold embossing powder? I have some that doesn't melt well and even after letting my gun heat up it darkens the paper before it melts to a rather knobby surface.

Thanks for dropping by.  I hope your week is going well.

Yay for border dies!! Your card looks marvellous the way it turned out. I would have never guessed that this was Plan B.

I'm afraid I can't answer your questions as I don't know what happened to my embossing powders when we moved a couple of years ago - and haven't replenished them. I need to though!

Beautiful card. I put my gold embossing powder in a container so I have no idea what brand I'm using! But...I do have an amazing gold ink - delicata. Golden Glitz. It stamps beautifully!

Your holly and berries are lovely, and fabulous 'design innovation' with the border panel! So pretty! Wish I could offer some embossing powder advice but I use it rarely: limited space makes bringing it out a hassle and the heat gun I have is one my husband uses to remove glue from his bike tires. It works...but scares me *grin* Someday, maybe, I'll get the 'proper' supplies...

Stunning! Love your stenciled holly, nice organic feel to this ❤️ Thanks so much for playing at MCV.
The gold embossing powder that I love is from WOW...pale gold. It melts really well and, actually, my MCV card is only one layer of the EP, but on this textured Arches W/C card, I should have embossed twice for complete coverage.

Very pretty! Love the popped up border...
As for the EP, I use Ranger but there's a miriad of different golds. Princess gold = "old" gold and will be darker, but Enchanted gold = vibrant (http://time4kards.blogspot.com/2016/03/nbus-6-cas-mix-up-march.html) Hope this helps!

Hi Bobby. I LOVE your card. The stenciled holly is so pretty, and I love the little details on the berries, it just gives them somethin' somethin'. :) Great save with the border die at the top. I would have thought it was your original design, because it's just a perfect topper for your card. Sometimes mistakes are a good thing. :) As for your questions, probably you need more light on your card to photograph the silver or gold. It's tricky, because too much light will create glare. There seems to be a fine line on getting it just right --- not easy. As for gold embossing powder, I'm using Hero Arts gold right now. I'm not 100% thrilled with it, but find it works well if I heat my gun first and only have it over the powder for a short time to melt. It you leave it too long over the powder, it seems to loose it's shine. Hope that helps. xx

Beautiful stenciled holly, Bobby! The border panel is so perfect that I wouldn't have guessed it was covering a boo boo! Photographing anything shiny is a challenge and it's always disappointing when it shows up black. I use SU embossing powder. It seems to emboss pretty well.

What gorgeous stencilling, Bobby ... the soft look contrasts beautifully with the prickly shape of the leaves! Congratulations on your win at MCV! Photographing ... I use my daylight lamp when taking pictures and making cards ... highly recommend it, the true light seems to pick up even metallic colours brilliantly! Gold EP ... I use Hero Arts ... it's fine grained and gives a fabulous finish! Hugs, Anita :)
