Inkspirational #332

When a challenge asks for a quilt you can be sure I'll be making a card for it.  I had several ideas but for Inkspirational I went with Grandmother's Flower Garden, or a semblance thereof.

Scraps of patterned papers fill the hexagons on the PTI coverplate, which has been applied to copy paper with double sided sticky sheet.  A little hugs die from SSS layered for dimension finishes it off.  When  you cut a coverplate and only use part of the image, it leaves you with plenty of leftovers.  And you know what leftovers mean.  A twofer.

The original cut of the coverplate slipped so I had to trim it down which gave me the chance to add a border.  This time I used the yellow print from the center of the first quilt for the outside and added a prayer die from SSS.

Julia from the Design Team mentioned posting a quilt that inspired our cards.  While I do have one, I'm showing the quilt I just made for my granddaughter who is expecting her first baby in March.

The striped fabric around the center is from her graduation quilt and the four plaid squares are leftovers from her baby quilt.  I gave it to her at a baby shower that was held on Saturday.  I'm just glad I found a long-arm quilter to get it done in time.

Thanks for dropping by.  I love sharing my cards with you.

Time Out #276

Can you believe it's November already?  Today is the day for a new challenge at Time Out and the word of the day is COZY.

I don't have much in the way of stamps that I thought said 'cozy' but I always think of quilts that way so that's what I made -  paper quilts.

The die is from MFT and I used scraps and sheets from several paper packs, attaching them to lightweight cardstock with Altenew double sided adhesive sheets.  Before adding it to the card base I ran it through with the Starburst debossing plate from Altenew.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts.

Dies like this means there are always leftovers so I made a second card.

The quilting on this one is an embossing folder from WeRMemory Keepers.

Newton's Nook is the sponsor for this challenge and will award our winner a $25 store credit. For design inspiration check out what the Design Team and our guests have made.  We hope to see your card in our gallery.

The Card Concept #189

In my last post I said I enjoyed birds and was always inspired to make a card for a challenge that features them.  I feel the same way about quilts.  I am a quiltmaker and also have a collection of over 20, some I've made and some I've acquired.  This is all an introduction to my clean and layered card for The Card Concept

The die is from MFT, the paper from my stash and the sentiment from Altenew.  When it was all put together I ran it through my die cutting machine with a WeRMemorykeepers quilt embossing folder. You know when you use  a die like this you have lots of leftovers, so not to let them go to waste I made two other cards.

The sentiment for this one is from Your Next Stamp.

And for a little bit of humor I added this sentiment from MFT.

Thanks for dropping by.  If you're in an area of freezing rain and storm forecasts I hope you have a nice quilt to wrap up in.

Inspired By #166

When I see a quilt on a prompt, I just HAVE to make a card.  Especially when the photo is as cute as the one at Inspired By.

I cut up little squares from age old paper packs to make my card.
I glued them onto copy paper and ran it through my Big Shot with a quilt embossing folder.  The images are from MFT and were stamped for me by a friend.  Thanks, Angie.  Unfortunately I had to fussy cut them and I'm not very good at that but a black pen around the edges helps.  I colored them with PolyChromos pencils, gave the sentiment from the set a little aging with Antique Linen DI to match the Rustic White cs from PTI and done.

Thanks for dropping by.  I appreciate it when you do.

Just Us Girls #575 - Trend Week

I'm the host for Trend Week at Just Us Girls and I've chosen to use an embossing folder.

When I thought of this as a trend, I had in mind to color an embossing folder with ink and then transfer the color to my cardstock.  After several tries with not much success I went an entirely different way.

I used a Gina Marie die to make a quilt and then a quilting folder on it.  Here's a close-up so you can see the 'stitching'.
I love a warm cozy quilt and thought the Altenew sentiment went well with this paper one.

I hope you'll give a try with different techniques using embossing folders but either way we'd love to see your card in the gallery.  Maybe the Design Team's cards will inspire you.  Take a look.

Inspired By #111

How could I not make a card for a challenge featuring a quilt?  Look what Inspired By has for their photo.
I used my Gina Marie die and similar colors for my card.
After gluing the papers to a square, I ran it through a quilt embossing folder before adding to the card base stamped with a PTI sentiment.

I'm so glad you dropped by today.  Please leave a comment to let me know you were here.

CAS(E) This Sketch #321

I love playing along with CAS(E) This Sketch and this week's sketch is a rather easy one but I got busy and frustrated and the card I ended up with is meh but it will definitely come in handy for someone on my prayer list.
Using the quilt from WPlus9 and a sentiment from PTI, I stamped them in Twilight from CP.  The centers of the design are colored with PolyChromos.

Thanks for dropping by.

Inspired By #61 and Inkspirational #181

You know if it's a quilt challenge I'm going to be doing it and that's the photo at Inspired By this week.  The only thing I have more of than quilting cotton is patterned paper or at least it's a close race and the paper takes up less room.
I used a die from Gina Marie gifted to me by my friend Michele. I pulled the paper from a variety of packs and since I used Altenew Spicy Yogurt as the sashing, I decided to carry through with the rustic look by putting my quilt on Desert Storm.  I also 'quilted' my block with an embossing folder. Unfortunately my photo editing blanked it out a little.  I think quilts offer a warm, homey feel and picked my sentiment from PTI accordingly.

Since I dipped into my stash of patterned paper I'm going to send this card to Inkspirational - Use Your Stash.

Thanks for dropping by.

Color Throwdown #528

I went back and forth about what I would do for this week's challenge at Color Throwdown.
Because I love owls I really wanted to do a card featuring one but I couldn't decide on a layout.  I ended up going an entirely different way using something else that's dear to my heart. Quilts.
I spent a little time finding papers that included the challenge colors and with the yellow sashing I think I did it.   Quilts give me a warm feeling so I went with this sentiment from PTI.

When you use a die like this you have lots of leftover pieces so I made another card with them.

I'm so glad you dropped by.  Have a great weekend!

Twofer Card Challenge #8

Things have been hectic around here with travel and being the substitute secretary at the church this week and again on Monday so I'm glad I had a little time today to make cards for the Twofer Challenge. In fact these may be the first cards I've made just for fun in quite a while.

I looked at a number of stamp sets that would work but settled on my WPlus 9 Quilt Prints.
Both cards have the stitched quilt strip stamped repeatedly on white cardstock with Smoke.  On the prayer card I stamped the diamonds in the centers with Altenew Ink and then ran it through a quilted embossing folder.  The double layer sentiment is from SSS cut from Smoke.
On the birthday card I used my NBUS frames from PTI stacked three high from Smoke cs.  The tulips are are from Altenew.

I'm so glad you dropped by.  I hope your summer is going well.

Time Out #103

I'm not twisting for the challenge at Time Out because it would be a little difficult to do my hobby in one layer although I have before.  My other hobby is quilting.

The larger die cut is a gift from Michele by Gina Marie and the smaller one is from WPlus9.  All the paper came from a PB stack and the sentiment is from PTI.

For those of you interested in quilts, I've updated my page at the top with some of my most recent quilts. When I find pictures of more, I'll add them in.

Thanks for dropping by.  My prayer for you is to find peace and comfort whenever you need it.

AAA Cards #100

I've been having so much fun creating that I almost forget to post my cards.  Today's card is for  AAA Cards.

Pretty basic sketch don't you think?  I ended up switching the sketch around a little to make way for my quilt strip. I hope that's okay.
I'm still in the prayer card making mode.  This one uses a WPlus9 stamp done in gray and peach with quilt embossing.

Thanks for dropping by.  Have a great weekend.

Addicted to Stamps and More #257

That's right.  It's time for the Make Your Mark challenge at Addicted to Stamps and More.  Remember you need to use pencils, markers, or paint brushes to 'make your mark' not just stamping. I chose to use brushes to watercolor the flowers on my card.

The Altenew flowers were inspired by some that I have in my garden.  They were colored with Zigs and placed on an embossed quilt background.

For more inspiration for your card, check the ones the Design Team have made over on the blog.  We'd love to see you in the gallery.
