Freshly Made Sketches #594

Hello crafty friends.  Today I have a card for Freshly Made Sketches. 

The lily is Altenew's Stargazer.  Purple is such a great compliment to the yellow/orange flower so I added a strip that matches the Grapevine stamens and anthers.  The heat embossed sentiment is from Hero Arts.

Inspired by #114

Have you seen the photo inspiration at Inspired By?  It reminds me of the wonderful cubbies Dawn McVey decorates at her home.  You may want to check them out @dawnsing on Instagram.  I only picked one of the cubbies to base my card on. 

See the second one down on the left.  That light green pitcher/watering can?  Here's what I did with that.

The green of the actual card is much lighter and more like the photo.  I stamped and masked the PB lily before using Altenew watercolors for the background.  After removing the mask, I watercolored the leaves and stem and then used PolyChromos pencils on the center of the flower and for shading. I stamped the sentiment from Jillian Vance and cut the panel with my NBUS rounded rectangles from Hero Arts. That was almost a disaster!  Evidently there was some brown ink on the cutting plate that remained from a previous pass through.  I thought I had destroyed all my work but then decided it gave the card a more rustic look like an old tin watering can would have.  That's making lemonade. ;)

TIME OUT #118 and Fusion - Citrus

The first thing I noticed in the photo at TIME OUT was the lilies in the bouquets.

Basically all you can see are those bulbous blossoms but I knew my PB lily stamp would make a great card.  I combined it with the sketch at Fusion, and with their colors.

The lily is colored with Zigs and fussy cut to to mount over the strips of DP from my stash.  I added black glaze to the stamens and a sentiment from PB. 

I have some exciting news to share.  Michele Ferguson and I are off to Florida tomorrow to visit Nancy Leppek.  On Saturday we are all going to see Kathy Racoosin at My Favorite Things as part of The Coloring Challenge Road Trip. I can hardly wait!

Time Out #91

It's CASE the designer week at Time Out and the designer is Beverley Brown of Uniko fame.  She made this lovely to inspire us.

Here is how I was inspired.

I knew right away I'd use my lily from PB.  It wasn't until someone mentioned their Clarity brushes that I decided to use a W&W stencil for my background.  The stencil is a diagonal stripe and I hoped I could do the stripes in rainbow Distress Ink and then move the stencil down and do the same color again to make a wide stripe.  Well you can see that didn't happen.  A heavier or lighter hand made the colors a little different from the first application but I rather like it. It's like I used 14 colors instead of only 7.

CAS Watercolor - April

Where does the time go?  April is going fast and I am just getting around to posting a card for the CAS Watercolor Challenge - pink and green.

It's a PB stamp colored with Zigs and a sentiment from PTI.

Just Us Girls #333 and Inkspirational #103

I came up with a new system for my challenges and due dates and it's working pretty good.  I can see at a glance what the challenges are and whether they are for one week or two.  This makes it easier to know which ones I need to work on first.  Speaking of first - my first card for today is for Just Us Girls whose word this week is 'Flowers'.

I saw Jennifer McGuire do some white pencil highlighting here and decided I wanted to try it with my PB lily.  I stamped the flower and sentiment in Unicorn White on Blueberry Sky and used a white Prismacolor pencil to color and add details.  I then added a few touches of Inktense pencils for some subtle color to the leaves and stamen.

I hear a lot of complaints about how difficult it is to do masculine cards.  I rather like to do them and made one for my entry at Inspirational - cue word 'Geometric'.

A stamp from MFT provided the argyle pattern, stamped in HA Soft Granite. I should have thought that through a little first because I do not have any gray paper that matches that color.  I opted instead to add a little color with red, matted on black with a black sentiment from SSS and a couple of enamel dots.
