Freshly Made Sketches #703

I don't have my dome dies with me so I had to get creative with my card for Freshly Made Sketches.  Karren said we don't have to use an arch frame so I went with an oval.

It's the Stylish Ovals from Spellbinders and I used two to make a frame from dark brown, then layered it on SB Acorn cardstock that was embossed with Altenew's Organic Linen.  The flowers are SSS Icelandic Poppy die cuts that Bonnie sent me in my birthday card. She knows how much I love those dies.  Thanks again, Bonnie. They are colored with Altenew Pastel Sunrise and Canyon Clay ink.  I also inked a scrap and stamped the Hero Arts sentiment in dark brown.

I'm so glad you dropped by.  I love your visits and your comments.

Celebrating Freshly Made Sketches' 700th Challenge

700 Challenges is quite an accomplishment so congratulations are in order for Freshly Made Sketches.  For fun, the Design Team is showing the very first card they made for FMS.  In keeping with that, I went back and found the very first card I made.  It was for challenge #6 on October 14, 2011.  Here's the sketch.

And my card.

I have come a long way on my card making journey.  This was only a little over 4 months since I started my blog and began entering challenges and I was using a Cricut for my images.  Even the writing of my blog posts has changed and improved tremendously.

For this week's challenge, we have this sketch from their 14th challenge.

I seldom make square cards and my proportions are a little different but here's what I came up with.

All the patterned paper came from a Honey Bee's Homestead Harvest and the card base is Ivory from Gina K.  The squares were cut with an MFT die, the Sunflower is from Spellbinders and the sentiment is a BetterPress.

Thanks for dropping by. I hope you'll go over to Freshly Made Sketches and walk down memory lane with them.

Inkspirational #347

I kept looking at the mood board at Inkspirational until I finally had an aha moment.  Concord and 9th's Eclectic Garden was the answer.

The flowers were cut from white cardstock and colored with Altenew inks in colors from the board.  For the background I used my smooshy tool to make a smooshed background using some of the same colors, then cut it with Honey Bee's Deckle Edge.  The sentiment is from SB BetterPress.

So glad you stopped by for a visit.

The Flower Challenge #105 - Reminder

There is still time for you to join The Flower Challenge using embellishments on your card.

I kept with the same pastel color theme as my first card using Spellbinder's Four Petal Bloom Reflection.  I made it a shaped card using the Four Petal dies.  The center of the flowers are gold Confetti from PPP and the sentiment is from MFT.

There is more inspiration from the Design Team on the blog.  We hope you join us for the challenge.

Just Us Girls Challenge #788 - Word Week

What an easy word Elizabeth has chosen for Word Week at Just Us Girls

We all need birthday cards and there should be a lot of different ideas for inspiration in the gallery as well as from the Design Team.

This card is for a great grandson.  The truck is from Penny Black, colored with Altenew artist markers.  The star paper is an oldie from my stash.  The center was cut with Hero Arts rounded rectangles and that portion glued to the inside of the card. A smaller rectangle was cut from white and pieces of paper cut and folded to make it pop up.  Here's another view.

This was so much fun to make and we have a number of young great grandsons so I'll be making more with other cars and trucks.

Will we see your birthday card in our gallery?

Color Hues #115

I love a pink and gray combination and that's what the challenge is at Color Hues this time.

I knew I would go with a flower so I looked through the few I brought with me to the lake and settled on Peony Dream by Altenew.  The background is from a paper pack from Sunny Studio.  I wanted to do something different so using Spellbinders Stylish Ovals I cut one from the DSP and two from white cardstock to make a shaped card.  The sentiment from Hero Arts is clear embossed on the same dark grey I used for the flower center.

I'm so glad you dropped by today.  I hope your week goes well.

The Flower Challenge #105 - Add Embellishments

Where is the summer going?  It's August already and time for another The Flower Challenge.

I'm not a big embellishment user but it was fun finding a die set that I could design using them.

It all began with Altenew's Zero Waste Floral Cover die cut in white and the various flowers and leaves colored with Altenew inks.  I used their enamel dots for the center of the flowers and added a BetterPress sentiment.

Let's go see what the Design Team has for inspiration.  We'd love it if you got out your embellishments and decorated a card for the challenge.

Just Us Girls #786 - CASE a Designer

Here's the Design Team's chance to inspire you with their individual cards as Ina hosts CASE a Designer Week at Just Us Girls

I had fun with this card and I hope it inspires you to use the elements to make a card of your own.  The Honey Bee Picnic Basket was made and hiding in the package.  I added it to a tan background that was embossed with the HB Burlap folder and filled it with some of the TH Wildflowers.  The best way I saw to add a sentiment was with The Greetery Market Basket's sentiment and holder on a strip of black.

Not your style?  The rest of the Design Team have a variety of ideas for you to choose from.  We hope you except the challenge and link your card.

Time Out #294 - Pick Two

Have you been enjoying our Pick Two challenges at Time Out?  We have another one for you.

Please be sure to let us know what two, or more, you pick for your card.  I actually picked four.

For the rainbow, stripes, I picked a DSP from Honey Bee, tearing it along the edge, although it's not very apparent in the photo.  This was placed on a background embossed with a star folder.  The eclipsed birthday die is from CUTplorations and the "happy" is Hero Arts.

This challenge is sponsored by Newton's Nook and they will award the winner a $25 store credit.  The only way you can win is to make a card for our challenge.  I hope to see you in the gallery.

Freshly Made Sketches #696, Inkspirational #346 and Seize the Birthday #310

It was hot and steamy yesterday so I stayed in and made a card for Freshly Made Sketches.  Since it was a birthday card, I'm also sending it to Inkspirational and Seize the Birthday - without the topping.

It all started with Concord and 9th's Birdhouse Blossoms.  I went looking for some patterned paper for the background, found one from Honey Bee and based my bird and house colors on it and added a heat embossed sentiment from Hero Arts.

Thanks for dropping by.  Happy TGIF.

Color Hues #114 and NBUS #76

I had the perfect NBUS die for the Color Hues challenge - yellow and green.

It's Concord and 9th's Spring Print Dies.  This is actually my second try.  The first one I cut in white and inked but I didn't like the look.  I didn't want a lot of leftovers so I cut my yellow and green cardstock into pieces just large enough to cover the areas I needed.  I also didn't do inlay.  I embossed a panel with Tasteful Textiles and then with the die plate so I could see where to place the pieces on top.  It smooshed down the first embossing a little but I still like the texture.  The sentiment is from a Betterpress.

NBUS means 'never before used stuff' so off this goes to Darnell's gallery.

Thanks for dropping by.

The Flower Challenge #104 - Reminder

There is still time for you to make a card for The Flower Challenge based on the colors in the photo.

For this card I used the colors opposite from the previous card, using the blue for the flowers and rust for the leaves.

The Morning Glories are from Altenew in the Cool Summer Night collection and the leaves are Orange Cream and Firebrick.  Another Betterpress sentiment finishes it off.

I hope my cards and those of the rest of the design team inspire you to make a card for the challenge.

Freshly Made Sketches #694

I wasn't sure I'd get a card made for Freshly Made Sketches this week but piece by piece it came together.

There were several reworkings of my idea but Peony Dream from Altenew was my main focus.  It's cut from white and colored with Altenw Ink in Sunray and Chamomile  with the leaves in Firefly.  The sentiment from Hero Arts is embossed in white on dark brown.  I haven't used my C9 Double Stripe Card Front in a while and it wanted to be part of this card.  I'm not really crazy about it - the leaves look disconnected - but sketches often do that to me.  It's called a challenge for a reason.  lol

A You See It #350 - Triptych

I put together a card for the sketch challenge at As You See It - Triptych.

For the three images I used one of TH Wildflower dies in Kraft, which went well with the striped paper from Honey Bee.  I trimmed the panel to let the navy cardstock show and added the Betterpress sentiment also in navy.  This will work well for a masculine card.

Thanks for dropping by.  Have a great week!

Color Hues #112

Peach and Cobalt.  Those are the colors Stef chose for the Color Hues Challenge.  Here's what I came up with.

It all started with the Terrazzo press plate from Altenew in their Eastern Sky ink.  I looked through the flower dies I brought with me and settled on Altenew's Virginia Rose.  It's cut in a light peach and the layers are colored with Pastel Sky and Canyon Clay, with inked Kraft cardstock for the center and stem.  It needed something more so the PTI frame, layered three times, was added as was a SB sentiment.

Thanks for visiting.  I love it when you leave a comment while you're here.
