STB #19 and CTS #33

I have a couple of serendipitous cards today.  I say that because as I struggled with making them, random things just came together.

First up is Seize the Birthday.

Since this is a two week challenge, I usually put it off until an idea comes to me, and then I rush around at the last minute trying to get something made.  Today is no different.  I made this card last night to meet today's deadline.

The paper, already grunged up, came from a 12 x 12 sheet with a different pattern in each quarter of the page.  The serendipitous part comes with the stamping of the sentiment from Hero Arts It's Your Day.  I tried a sample of Navy HA ink but it was too dark.  I cleaned the stamp, but I guess not well enough because when I tried Butter Bar next, it came out this yellowy/greeny color.  It was just perfect for the card.  Yippee!  I'm glad I stamped it on a scrap piece that was a good size.  I used some Old Paper Distress Ink to add some grunge to the sentiment banner to match the card and popped it up on foam tape.

The next challenge was one I thought I was going to have to forego because I just couldn't come up with anything that I was happy with. I spent an hour last night fooling around but  nothing. Then this morning, while in the shower, an idea just washed into my brain.  I do that a lot.  There's just something about freeing your mind while shampooing your hair that makes the ideas flow.

The challenge is for CAS(E) this Sketch and is the second simple sketch I've struggled with this week.

Here's what washed up.

I've had this hexagon embossed cardstock sitting on my desk since I tried embossing with a die.  I was thinking about buying a hexagon embossing folder when I saw a tutorial on Make it Monday about using your die to emboss.  So I took my Happy Hexagons from Papertrey Ink and voila' it worked beautifully.   I cut a few hexies for my three items and then using a template, drew and hand cut the sentiment label.  I used a Hero Art sentiment with their Cement ink and popped all the pieces up on foam.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope your day is full of joy.

Boy! Your mojo was working overtime here! So nice how these came together. They are wonderful. Love the greens and bit o' grunge on the first card, and the gorgeous simplicity of the second. Hexies are just the most fun, aren't they?! Bev

Super cards! I love the grunge look of the first and the hexagon card looks terrific with your hand-cut sentiment label! Too funny that the ideas came in the shower. That sort of thing happens to me all the time too!
