CASology #205 and Color Q #349

I'm off to the lake for the weekend so I have to post a couple of cards that are due Monday.  First up is the one for CASology where the cue word is 'chevron'.

The chevrons from Catherine Pooler (Stamp of Approval kit) are stamped in HA India Ink Black. The sentiment and die are also from SOA and are by Casual Friday.  'You' is cut four times, the top one in glitter paper.

Next is a card for Colour Q.  This is a card that did NOT want to be made. Here are the colors:

And here's the little trouble maker.

Seeing it next to the banner, the colors don't look quite right.  I started by stamping the weeds in London Fog and clear embossing them.  Next came the inking with Broken China and Salty Ocean -how appropriate *wink*.   I planned on some red coral but when I stamped the sentiment I messed it up and so I went with a red fish to cover it up.  That left some bare spaces at the bottom so I stamped some more weeds in gray but when I embossed them they came out dark blue.  Okay, that's closer to one of the colors but then I had three blues, so I went over the top with Salty Ocean to make it all the same.  Now I need more white than around the fish so I white embossed the sentiment.  Actually I accidentally embossed it in clear because the new ep I bought was not white.  :(  I stamped right over it and you can't see what's underneath.  I don't think I could handle two fish covering messy sentiments.  The images are from MFT and the sentiment from CB. At least I persevered and have a card for the challenge, even if it's not what I started out with, and maybe not the right colors.

CAS(E) This Sketch #164

CAS(E) This Sketch is coming up with some doozies.  I'm glad we're all so creative.

Here's the sketch;

The top two dies are rarely used ones from CASual Fridays cut in distressed and metallic paper respectively.  Again with the hard-to-tell photo.  I added a little PTI sentiment embossed in Liquid Platinum and a polka dot chevron for what I consider a masculine card.  I've thought of another idea for the sketch so if I have time I'll make it.

Addicted to CAS #62

I just saw the Addicted to CAS has a few hours left before it closes so I'm sending over this card I made for a bridal shower last weekend.  Their theme is black, white and gold which just happens to be my granddaughter-in-law to be's favorite colors.  And she loves chevrons.

I started with my PTI chevron die, then gold embossed the flower that I borrowed from Michele when we crafted together.  I also used the sentiment from her SSS May kit. Thanks, Michele.

Fusion Chevrons

Well, Hello Thursday.  Where did Tuesday and Wednesday go?

I have a card for the Fusion challenge.

I went back and forth about what I was going to do for this challenge until I spotted my tweed stencil.  Hanging on the end of my cabinet, it looked like chevrons to me so I pulled it down and made this card.

I used Distress Inks except for the grey which is HA soft granite. I just happened to have this small piece of black and white twine, which looks a little chevron-y, and adds that last color to the mix.  I did a little surgery on a Penny Black stamp for the sentiment, placed on a punched tag with some  (gasp) sequins.  I don't often use sequins, and have very few, but these red ones seemed to bring a little party to the card.

CASE Study #147

The CASE Study inspiration this week is a bright and colorful card by Lisa Spangler.

This is another card where I tried a number of different ideas.  I was going to do something with triangles and I have a triangle stamp but knew I wasn't good enough to stamp that many and have them come out even.  Then I thought I could cut out big ones with my Cricut but it's not the look I was going for.  As I was looking  in my box for paper for another card I spied my chevron die.  Aha, that will work!  It doesn't fit across a vertical card so I turned it horizontally.

I took a piece of photo paper and used Distress Inks to color it randomly.  From a 4.25 by 5.5 piece of white cardstock, I cut the chevron from each end.  I cut several more and laid them out until I was satisfied with the space between.  I glued the top and bottom on, arranged the others,  taped one end to hold them in place and ran Scotch Glue along the pieces.  I pulled off the tape and glued the remaining ends.  Then came the dilemma.  Where do I put a sentiment?  Do I cut another piece of paper and cover up part of my colored chevrons?  uh, no!  What about vellum?  No again.  I can always use more birthday cards so I looked at my birthday stamps and came across one from Papertrey Ink called Birthdays Inside and Out.  It was small enough to put on a couple legs of the chevron.  Perfect!

Freshly Made #91

This card is freshly made.  I finished it just in time for the deadline at Freshly Made.

This sketch is so simple I don't know why I agonized over it.  Do I use pattern paper?  Or maybe I should emboss the main panel. What will I use for the trim?  How will it tie in with a sentiment?  I sat for an hour while I watched HGTV Star staring at the sketch, looking over the gallery, checking out my embossing samples and trying to find something for a border.  I went to my "drawer" where my 6 x 6 paper pads are stored to check out some paper ideas when I spotted my chevron die from PTI.  Hey, that will make a good border!  Then I found the paper and it all fell together.

This cute little tea cup paper is from Soho Garden by American Crafts.  If you look closely, you'll see that some of the cups have chevron stripes in them.  Can I hear a "Yay!" for a great tie in?  I had a scrap of the orangey red, and when I say scrap I mean it was almost the size I needed.  The white was also just the right width. No trimming there.  I used a PTI stamp from Birthday Bash with Hero Arts Pale Tomato and tucked the whole thing under the chevron cut from a scrap of pink.  When I got done, I was satisfied. As I looked at it again this morning, I thought "My you look cute."   Maybe the panel won't agree but I'm happy.

Chevrons and Flowers

There's a fun new challenge out there called Fusion. Go check it out to see their hypothesis.  I tried to post it here but it did something strange to my blog page.  I'm combining it with CASual Fridays.

I have a chevron die, from PTI I think, and knew I could finally put it to use.  One of the new paper packs I bought was Miss Caroline from MME and it had this cute flowered paper.  Could I place the chevron die in such a way that it made the best use of the flowers?  Yes, I could, so that's what I did.  Then I tried to duplicate the flowers on the paper with a cut from the Cindy Lou cartridge, using scraps.  The sentiment was printed from the computer.

I know, I know.  I'm very literal with inspiration photos.  I love to try new things but thinking in a new way is much more difficult.  Stay tuned and see if I can retrain my brain. ;)
