Addicted to CAS #110

The challenge this week at Addicted to CAS threw me for a loop.  The code word is "grunge"

I'm not much of a grunge girl although for some unknown reason I bought a stamp set ages ago from Tim Holtz called 'Ultimate Grunge'.  I pulled them out to play around and I liked my test panel so much I made it my card with a few additions.

After I had this made and scheduled, the Design Team got a notice from Kylie about what CAS really is and for us to be sure our cards were clean and simple and to educate other stampers in that style:

- one main focal point
- lots of open (no pattern) space
- minimal layers
- minimal embellishments

The one main focal point and lots of open space is a MUST. The open space doesn't have to be 'white' but it MUST be without pattern.

With this said, I had to change my card so I want to show you how to take the previous card and make it CAS.

I used SSS stitched rectangles to cut several panels from my Neenah Solar White cs.  The center panel was stamped with the same stamps as above and the sentiment was stamped directly onto the panel.  The stitching gives some texture and popping up the panel gives it dimension while still keeping the card CAS.

Inkspirational #86

How about a little grunge for a change?  That's the cue word at Inkspirational this week.  What's really grungy are all the practice sheets I did to come up with this card.

I stenciled, stamped and kissed my way onto some Neenah Solar white with Distress, HA and SSS Ink.  I used the feathers from PTI and kissed them with some PS for interest.  The edges of the slightly smaller panel are distressed and mounted crookedly on some Smoke paper.

Now I'd better get busy.  Except for one, this is the last card I have in my arsenal.  I had my desk all cleaned off to sew, which I did, but now it looks like my mind is going in 15 different directions.  No worries.  I'll pull it together in time for another challenge. ;)

TIME OUT #31 and AAA #40

I had a lot of fun doing a card for TIME OUT.  Their theme is "Grunge, with the optional twist of embossing."

I made this so long ago I'm not sure I can remember what I did ;)  Let's just say I used Distress Inks in Frayed Burlap, Iced Spruce, Old Paper and Antique Linen; a background stamp from MFT, a butterfly from Snippets, and a splatter stencil from Tim Holtz.  The sentiment from My Craft Spot is white embossed on Slate cardstock and popped up on foam tape.  I think there's even a little script stamp in there by PTI. Grungy enough for you?

I think grunge is perfect for a guy card so I'm sending this over to AAA.

ATCAS #37

I've been playing around with a new technique this morning and will have that to show tomorrow.  Today I have a card for Addicted to CAS.  I haven't played with them for a while but the code word intrigued me.

I haven't actually done grunge but the style fascinates me so I thought I'd give it a try.

I have a feeling I kind of overdid this one so maybe it's not clean (can grunge really be clean? lol) but it was simple.  I used a couple of Tim Holtz stencils, first the splatter and then the burlap, with Distress Inks.  I also used a Tim Holtz stamp in a couple of places. See what I mean by overdo?  The sentiment is from PTI Building Blocks that I stamped in HA Charcoal on paper that I inked with Dusty Lilac to match the splotch.   The panel is framed with some PTI Smokey Gray.
