Michele from I Card Everyone gave me this fabulous paper that is perfect for the challenge at Make It Monday - using vellum to soften patterned paper..

The reverse side of the red flowered paper is the gold that I used for my base.  I stamped the Wet Paint sentiment in black and clear embossed. then pulled out my sewing machine and stitched the vellum on leaving some tails.

Time Out #3 and Retro Sketches #110

Hello everyone.  It's been a while.  Last Saturday a storm blew through and took out my phone and internet.  I have a cell so the phone wasn't much of a loss, but I did have a "quilt" card ready to post for Make it Monday.  I'll save it for a while in case another quilt challenge shows up.  Then things got busy and I didn't have time to make cards until I actually needed one for a friend's party this Saturday.  I used the sketch from Retro Sketches to make a masculine birthday card for Time Out.

The flags from My Craft Spot are similar in shape and size to the line "Happy" from PIT, so I mixed them together with some rather masculine papers and sewed them on.  The 60 is cut with my Cricut and I'm a little disappointed that I couldn't cut it smaller.  I tried 1/2" and it was so thin and tiny that it looked terrible.  This is 3/4" and I'd say it's twice the size of the 1/2".  How does that happen?  Maybe it's time to get an alphabet die. The sentiment is one I masked from Hero Arts.

LIM #160

When I saw the recipe at Less is More this week, use metal,  my original thought was something masculine.   Somewhere along the line I made a big U turn.

My daughter had given me these heart shaped paper clips and that was the beginning of my card.   Using a Heidi Swapp stencil, I used tinted embossing paste for the hearts.  When I decided to emboss the HA sentiment in silver, I used my silver marker to color the white heart.  A couple of flags sewn on with threads hanging and my card is done.

CASE Study #179

I absolutely love the soft, flowy look of Danielle Flanders card that is the muse for this week's CASE Study.

Another designer who does similar work is Debby Hughes over at Lime Doodle.  I love her work.  I tried, girls, I tried.

The photo is a little dark. :(  I used a "happy" from PTI, layering it 4 times.  The vellum is colored with Tattered Rose Distress Ink which matched the paper from Pink Paislee perfectly.  I broke out my sewing machine to stitch them on.

I left the ends of the thread to dangle.  The stars are embossed with sparkle ep and popped up.  I'm definitely trying this style again.  And now that I have the tension on my sewing machine right, I may "sew" a couple of other cards before I need to actually sew something like curtains or a quilt.

Freshly Made #92

The other day I was cutting off my husband's jeans and turning them into shorts.   When I was done, I looked at my machine and thought "hmmm, this may be the time to try sewing on a card."   I had never done it before but had seen some cards with stitching on them and thought it was I should try.  I must say I find it easier to sew on fabric than paper.  I probably should have adjusted the tension and maybe used a different needle but it didn't come out too badly.  I'll have to practice.

I followed the Freshly Made sketch.

The paper is from a Crate Paper stack that I sewed to kraft cardstock with black thread.  One of the hardest things for me is tying my card design to a sentiment.  What was I going to do with this?  I decided on "What's the Word?"  and printed it on my computer using a font similar to the letters for the "word".  It's cut with a PTI word frame and then inked to give it a color more like the print paper.

Retro Sketch this week look's like this.

It's not my best work.   The paper comes from a 6 x 6 stack that has lost it's cover so I can't tell you who makes it.  Even the strip of buttons is part of one of the papers.  The sewing machine and sentiment are from a Jillibean Soup set.  The buttons are dies from Papertrey Ink, covered with Glossy Accents.

Retro Sketch 56

I'm off today to spend some quality time with my daughter over her spring break and await the birth of my first great grandchild.  I've been making cards like crazy so I have all the challenges I want to enter met.  Now I just have to remember what to post when and what I did on each card.  I don't know how some of you keep all the challenges you enter straight.

Today's card is for Retro Sketches.

The paper came from a 6 x 6 pad from We R Memory keepers.  The sewing machine stamp is from Unity and I won it from Tracy at Owl Be Craftin'.  The buttons are from a die from Papertrey Ink.  I put a couple of coats of UTEE on them and used crochet thread through the holes.  I left a sentiment off the front because I want to decide what to use when I'm ready to send the card.
