Fusion - Old Door Charm

It's rather late in the day but I've had this card made for Fusion for a week now and have put off posting it.  If I don't do it now, I may miss the deadline so here it is.

Those of you who know me know I love old and rustic and so this door charmed me right off the bat and I set out to make my card right away.  It took some finagling but it turned out just like I wanted, something that hasn't been happening to me much since then.

I cut the door with my Cricut and then stamped and inked, and inked and crackled (with Distress Crackle Paint.  The background is SSS Smoke run through with my Bricked ef and then mounted on Slate cardstock.  Another piece of Slate was put behind the door where the sentiment from PTI (I found it!  I couldn't remember what set it was from when I was looking for it.) is embossed with Liquid Platinum.  I also used it on the brad door knob.  If I saw this in an antique shop, life size, I'd probably buy it.  No, not my card, the door in the inspiration photo.  :)

I have a card for the challenge at CASology.

What could be more bold than a card that says "Bold"?

The word is cut with my Cricut twice so I would have a shadow.  The sentiment is from PTI's Wishes Come True.  I did a little Wink of Stella on the blue and purple bursts to give it that celebratory feel.

Freshly Made #87

We're getting ready to head off to the local Memorial Day parade. It's small but very moving as they stop at the bridge and have a 21 gun salute in honor of the service men and women lost at sea. They proceed to the cemetery where they shoot off another round and play taps.  I'm proud to say that my Dad served in the Army medic corps during World War II.

My card today uses the sketch from Freshly Made.

I needed a 50th anniversary card for some dear friends and this sketch was perfect for it.

I cut the numbers from the Sophisticated cartridge because I loved the little scrolls and they made it "fancy".  They are gold (as you can tell by the shine) with a shimmery blue shadow.  I used the same blue and gold for the strip, layering a piece of white cardstock embossed with the Damask folder on top.  The sentiment from Hero Arts is embossed in gold.

CASETS #23 and STB # 13

My parents arrived home from Florida on Sunday and yesterday was a full day getting them settled.  I took Dad to the dentist, called a plumber to fix a leak,  ordered a medical alert system, and did a little grocery shopping.  And that is only part of what my day was like.  Today will be much of the same, with a little time for art class this morning.  That means there may not be time for card making and the two cards I have for challenges today are the last of the ones I did last week.  With my head swirling with all this other stuff, my inspiration for any challenges is minimal.

I guess I'm going to have to remove that shout out badge.
It gets in the way of my way too long post. ;)

Rereading this first paragraph just made me think of the pastor's sermon on Sunday.  She was talking about addictions.  She mentioned a number of addictions but now I'm wondering, can card making be an addiction?  Or maybe it's just an obsession.  All I know is I religiously write down the challenges on my list and try my best to make cards for them.  I feel bad when I have to miss one, either because I can't meet the requirements or I just can't come up with any ideas.  Or in this week's case, just don't have much time to even think about it.  Okay, enough about me.  Time for my cards.

I love this idea from CASE this sketch!  I mulled over a number of things until I came up with this one.

I saw this cut  on the Sophisticated cartridge and it caught my eye.  But what to do with it.  I remembered that a gentleman in my church will be celebrating his 90th birthday shortly so this is for him.  I cut the 90 out of gold glitter paper and popped it up over the original cut.  Then I stamped the sentiment with Faded Jeans Distress Ink.  This would work great for any birthday where the numbers are consecutive, 12, 45.

This next card is for Seize the Birthday.  After last week's feminine sketch, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for my masculine one.

I had this pennant paper and knew it would work well for the sketch.  I chose some sandable Core-dinations paper for the various pieces to give them the look of the background.  The sentiment was printed on the computer using the Stencil font, the same one seen on the word amazing, and then cut the banner by hand.  This one has already been mailed to my brother.

Aarrggghhh!

That's the sound of frustration!  I had my blog all typed - first in a month - and my wifi went out and didn't save it.  I did save part of it so I can just paste it here but after I made the card, I found out the blog challenge I made it for was closed.  I guess it doesn't pay to take a break  lol

Here's the part I saved.  I'll repost the picture of the card and how I made it, but not the challenge part.

It's actually been a month since I've posted. How time flies!

First came Labor Day weekend when we were all at the lake to take in the dock and close down the cottage. When I got home, I had to alter a dress for my granddaughter for her homecoming dance. She found just what she wanted in a size too big. It's a good thing I am a seamstress.

On September 14, a group of us from the church left for the Crow Creek Indian Reservation in South Dakota to work on a Habitat for Humanity house. We toured the badlands, worked hard, learned more about Native Americans and enjoyed each others company. There were 22 of us in all and we got more done on the house than the director thought we would. It still needs more work before the family can move in but their target date is October 21.

It's taken me a week to work out the sore muscles and catch up on my sleep but I'm ready to get back to my paper crafting. I have a lot of pictures to scrap but the first thing I did was make this card for the 50th Anniversary of one of the couples on the trip.

I used Twinkle Toes to cut the scallop and oval and Sophisticated for the numbers.  The mat and numbers are cut from gold metallic paper and popped up on foam.  The card base is embossed with houndstooth and the oval with hearts.  (Just so you know, the challenge was a pick three former challenges which explains so many different things going on.)

I'd better get busy now since I have a great idea for a challenge that closes tomorrow.  See you then.

Monogram Note Card

It's always nice to have a little note card that you can send a personal message on.  I thought that by combining the sketch from Freshly Made and the monogram challenge from My Sheri Crafts, I could have a really nice note card.  Here's the sketch.

All the paper is from the MME Lost and Found collection.  I LOVE that stack!!  The monogram is cut from the Sophisticated cartridge and everything is inked with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

The Bold and The Beautiful

Sounds like a good name for a soap opera, doesn't it?  In this case, it's the name of the challenge at CAS-aul Fridays. You are to use pastels with black.  Anything goes good with black, the difficulty comes in what to choose.  I just got the Sophisticated cartridge and decided to use a cut from it for my card.

The under layer is lavendar and the top layer is pink.  I colored some white pearls with an old, old, art marker (those things last forever) that let the pearl quality show through.  I rounded the bottom corners and attached a shiny ribbon with a glue dot to finish it off.  I'm loving it's simplicity.
