Color Hues #79

I've had my card for Color Hues sitting on my desk for ages.  I guess I'd better post it before the deadline gets any closer.  

I knew I wanted to make a copper pot with my Crusty Copper embossing powder but it took a while to find something to grow in it.  Here's a close-up of the pot from Tim Holtz. 

 

I finally settled on the ferns that come with PTI's Dahlia set, cutting them from green and inking the middle for shading.  The back panel is embossed with the burlap folder from Honey Bee.

CASology #279

Gray is a popular color in home decorating and is also the cue word for this week's CASology.

I thought the color would be appropriate for a sympathy card and used all three SSS gray cardstocks and the ferns from PTI's Meadow Greens.

CAS(E) This Sketch #125 and OCC

Time for another CAS(E) This Sketch.  I planned to use the sketch for homework for the Online Card Class but it was a fail for that.  I resurrected it to send to CTS anyway.

I originally used freezer paper to make a mask of my sentiment and then watercolored around it with Distress Inks.  Unfortunately it bled underneath so I cut 2 layers of white and one layer of dark gray glitter paper, glued them together, then over the masked area.  The die is from Paper Smooches and the "soon" is from MFT.

I will go ahead and show you another card from the Mask-erade Online Card Class.

For this one I clear embossed the fern from PTI and watercolored around it.  I added some splatters and I think I went a little overboard.  And then I really overdid it and added sequins.  I guess maybe I thought they toned down the splatters.  ;)  The sentiment is from PB.

My fingers are inky, my recycle bin is full and my desk is a mess but I finally have a card for Make it Monday's "Masking with a die cut".  Erin Lincoln has a wonderful video to show you how it's done.

I used masking paper to cut the ferns from PTI's Meadow Greens. I cut them on the wrong side the first time so of course the stamp didn't match.  Scratch one background.  I wasn't sure I liked it anyway so I went a different direction by lightly watercoloring with Weathered Wood DI, then misting with Faded Jeans, also adding a few big splotches.  The ferns are stamped using HA Green Hills on the edges and Field Green in the middle.  The sentiment is from Stampendous and the panel is mounted with foam tape on Blueberry Sky cardstock.  It actually looks better IRL.  Lighter and airier like ferns should look.

I want to thank all of you who made such comforting and encouraging comments about my caretaking duties with my parents.  My brother is here for the holiday weekend so I've had a little bit more time for me.  Next Friday my sister arrives from Denver until Labor Day so I'll have a lot more time to spend in my craft room. I'll still be visiting Mom in the nursing home every day and checking in on Dad but I won't need to spend the night and all afternoon with him.  We still don't know what the future holds for them but your prayers are truly appreciated.

I love the watercolor trend than has taken over the card making world.  I took a watercolor painting class a while ago and while I wasn't too bad at it, using stamps makes it a whole lot easier. This week's challenge at Make It Monday is "Stamping with Watercolor Medium".   Heather used gelatos as her medium but I used Distress Inks and I must say it takes some practice to get the right amount of water with the ink.

I stamped the ferns from Meadow Greens onto watercolor paper (many times) until I got an image I liked.  It looked better framed so I cut a circle in some woodgrained white paper.  Since the watercolor paper had a cream tone to it, I cut a frame from Vintage Cream and also used that for my card base, offsetting the popped up panel to the right and down.  I tried a number of ways to add a sentiment but the green on a cream flag looked best.
