Addicted to CAS #210

I needed one more Thanksgiving card so I used the prompt from Addicted to CAS and made this.

The circle is cut with a Spellbinders Hemstitch die.  A sentiment from Jillian Vance was stamped inside and leaves from Lawn Fawn added at the bottom.  The leaves were cut from paper that had been colored with Distress Mica sprays.  To make color show through the die cut, I swiped dark brown ink direct to the card base.

CAS Mix-UP October and Less Is More #454

I told you I got carried away with the technique at CAS Mix-Up and here I am with six more cards using botanical prints.  Only one will enter the challenge and it will also go to Less Is More.  I'll post that one first and you can skip the rest if you want.

I went foraging in the back yard and found this leaf that I covered with VersaMark, pressed down on my card front and white heat embossed.  I gave it some color with Distress Inks and added the Altenew sentiment.

I made a similar one a little less CAS.

After inking outside the image, a PTI sentiment was added, the panel trimmed and placed on PTI Canyon Clay cardstock. 

Always in need of sympathy cards I made the next two.  

A tiny branch from a winterberry bush was inked with VersaMark and silver embossed.  The panel was bordered with Navy with a navy sentiment.

This is the same branch embossed in copper with a brown border.  The little extra leaf covers a smudge.

The next one is very interesting.  See if you can figure out how it was done.

When sending this cute little plant through my Big Shot I added a piece of paper towel to absorb the juices.  The image on the towel came out better than the one on the watercolor paper so I glued it to a scrap with an adhesive sheet and placed it under some green cut with an MFT oval.

The last one is a Christmas card.

I don't know what kind of pine tree this 'branch' is from.  It's soft and delicate but definitely pine since I could smell it when I ran it through my die cutting machine.  Those images didn't come out but this is what I got when I inked it with VersaMark and heat embossed.  A little Rustic Wilderness was all it needed to give it substance.  I added an ornament from SSS heat embossed in clear and silver and a sentiment from PTI.  An interesting thing about that ornament.  I embossed it three times but it kept soaking into the paper so I didn't get the shiny look I was going for.  

So there you go.  I'm done with this technique now.  I have to move on to other cards and challenges but I sure did enjoy doing these.  Thanks so much CAS Mix-Up team for the inspiration.

Inspired By #191

Inspired By has really been inspiring me lately.  Today I have two cards for their challenge, one based on the regular photo and one for the Christmas one.  I'll start with the Christmas one first.

I was taken by the red shoes in the photo (see below) so I started there with the Bear from EbyE.  Then pulling out some ancient patterned paper I made the scarf, his present and the ones beside him.  They were stamped with another EbyE set and fussy cut.  Can you see the words on the packages? They are the same as the sentiment. I also used some of the paper for a panel behind what was supposed to be a gray background for the bear.  I had him all glued down when I saw the gray piece on my desk that I planned to use.  Oops.

I couldn't leave out his cousin brown bear so I made another card with him, stamping him in brown and adding a little shading with colored pencil and black glaze on his eyes and nose.

Michele sent me the wagon that she colored with Copics and the contents uncolored quite a while ago when they first came out from EH.  I colored the pumpkins and gourds with Distress Ink and place them on a white panel stamped with a sentiment from CB. The border is an experimentation with smooshing Oxide inks that didn't come out very well but I didn't want to waste it.

Inspired By #148

The photo inspiration at Inspired By really drew me in.

I'm looking for some architectural windows like that for my bedroom.  In lieu of that, I recreated one from paper.

I bought the chicken wire die from Kat Scrappiness quite a while ago and thought it was perfect to put in between layers of the WF dome die.  I cut two of the leafy branches and added some metallic paint to the edges of the leaves and on the branches to give it some pizazz although it doesn't show in the photo. The CP word die is triple layered in Canyon Clay cs.

Just Us Girls #560 - Wild Card Week

Yes, it's Wild Card Week at Just Us Girls which means there are 5 Saturdays and on that day the host can pick whatever she'd like for the challenge.  Angie is our host this time and she chose Word Die Cuts.

I decided to camouflage my die cut word.

The Penny Black pumpkins were stamped on Bristol and colored with Zigs. I cut the Catherine Pooler die from the middle and from three orange pieces, layered them and put them back in place.

The Design Team and out guest Karen Walker would love to see how you use a word die on your card.  It doesn't have to be hidden like mine. ;)   I want to thank Karen for being our guest this month.  I have enjoyed seeing all her beautiful cards.  If you enter our challenge, you may have a chance to be a guest.  I hope we see your card in the gallery.

Color Hues #4

I stuttered a bit before making a card in orange and blue.  That's what the new challenge at Color Hues is asking for and I wanted to make a card for them.  For orange I immediately thought of the variety of pumpkin stamps and dies  that were adorning my desk.  But what about the blue?  All I needed to do was add a sky.

I inked the panel with Distress Oxide, spritzed it and then cut it with the Nordic frame from The Greetery.  The SSS pumpkins were cut from some snippets and added above the PTI sentiment.

CAS(E) This Sketch #395

CAS(E) This Sketch gave me the opportunity to add two more cards to my Thanksgiving stash.

I say two because that piece of plaid paper, stamped with C9 gingham, was cut in half to use on identical cards.  The wreath is from SSS, the smooshed leaves from LF and the heat embossed sentiment from PTI.

CAS Mix-up Stencil 10/20

Today's card is for the CAS Mix-up Challenge.  This is a good one as there are many ways to do tone on tone with stencils.  In fact there are links to videos on the blog if you need inspiration.

I started with a piece of heavyweight Neenah and colored it with Distress Oxides in Aged Mahogany, Spiced Marmalade and the new Cracking Campfire.  Then I placed my Funky Fossil stencil on the paper, covered it with a baby wipe and ran it through my die cutting machine with an embossing mat.  The PTI sentiment was heat embossed in platinum on chocolate cs with a CP leaf cut from the same paper.  Because this is a CAS challenge, I cut the panel in half and ended up with two cards.

Addicted to CAS #173

I'm your host this week at Addicted to CAS and I've chosen what I think is an appropriate word for this time of year.  Or anytime actually.

I made multiples of this Thanksgiving card to send to the homebound people of our church. Once I had it set up it was easy to do.

I used a maple leaf from a set by HA and inked, spritzed and stamped in five colors of Distress Ink across the top of my card then added the veins.  The sentiment is a combination of CP and PTI done in Cup o' Joe.

The Flower Challenge #38

November's theme for The Flower Challenge is

I chose stripes and made my own on this Thanksgiving card.

The background is a stencil from SSS, blended with Rusty Hinge Distress Ink.  The flower is Altenew's Majestic Bloom and the sentiment is from PTI.

Just Us Girls #511 - Photo Week

I'm the host of Photo Week at Just Us Girls and since it's the end of October I thought this photo would be fun.

There are enough elements that you can chose to center your card around and it will be interesting to see where your focus lies.  For me it was the pumpkins, mainly because of my NBUS stamp set from HoneyBee.

I stamped the different sizes of pumpkins and leaves on Bristol and colored them with Zigs.  I arranged them on Neenah Desert Storm (don't ask me how long that took) and added the sentiment from PTI.  

The Design Team and our Guest and former teammate Chris Dring have some outstanding photo inspired cards for you to see before making one of your own.  We'd love to see you in the gallery.

STAMPlorations Stencil and CAS - October

I have a card to fit two of Stamplorations challenges.  Clean and Simple Challenge and The Stencil Challenge.

I used ARTplorations Happy Flowers stencil with Distress Ink , masking so I could ink the stem in green while the flowers are in the CAS twist color orange.  I think this is my first time entering any of the STAMPlorations challenges.

This is the last Thanksgiving card I will need to make to have enough for the homebound members of my church.  I'm sending it to AAA Cards for their current challenge.

I used the PTI Beautiful Berries:Autumn with Altenew ink.  I just love the look of bittersweet.

CAS(E) This Sketch #341

This week's CAS(E) This Sketch is more about background than anything else.  Take a look.

I love argyle but not having anything but an embossing folder I went with my second favorite - plaid.

I got the stencil from a scrapbook store near the cottage and used Walnut Stain DI on PTI Orange Zest.  The MFT leaves are cut from gold metal and the PTI sentiment is gold heat embossed.
