The Flower Challenge #90 - Reminder

Hey there.  Thanks for dropping by.

There is still time for you to make a layered card for The Flower Challenge.

For my card I used the two layer plaid cover plate from Concord and 9th.

It was cut in white and mounted on a dark gray card base.  The flower are from Altenew's Golden Days, stamped in pinks and greens.

There is more inspiration for you from the Design Team over on the blog.  Be sure to check them out.

Group of Seven Card makers - April Eclipse.

Hey there!  I'm glad you dropped by.

I didn't realize until I typed the title of my post that the Group of Seven Cardmakers technique is quite appropriate for this month.  I happen to live right in the path of the best view of the solar eclipse and my son and his family are coming to join us (and thousands of other people I've heard) to watch this incredible event.  Yes, we do have the required glasses.

But you came here for cards and the Cover Die Eclipse Technique.

I have a ton of cover plates but much to my chagrin, most of them won't work for this technique.  Here I've used one from Waffle Flower with patterned paper. You need two sheets - one for the base layer and one to cut.  I added two layers of heavy white cardstock behind the cut panel.  It looked like a birthday celebration to me so I added the die cut sentiment from Altenew. It was tricky making sure the letters had a place to stick.

A lot of the Go7 cardmakers stenciled cards to use and so I tried that next.

The flowers are Daffodil Delight from Altenew that comes with a stencil.  You have to be sure to color them as close to the same as possible.  Like I said before, I have a ton of cover plates but most of them just make stitch lines on a panel.  I didn't pay close enough attention and tried to use one of them on my stenciled panel.  Yikes!  Onward and upward I go by cutting again with one part of a plaid die from Concord and 9th and layering it.  You can still see the stitch lines 😢 but I think it's still okay.  I did hate to see the stenciled pieces fall from the plate and thought for just a brief moment of saving them for another card.  Then I thought better of it and watched them fall into the recycle bin.

This is a fun and rather easy technique so I hope you give it a try.

Color Throwdown #774 and NBUS #58

I have a lot of masculine birthdays in February and March.  I thought the colors at Color Throwdown were perfect for the men in my life.

The plaid is a double die - thick and thin - from Concord and 9th mounted on GinaK ivory cardstock.  The sentiment is a new die from Altenew that was cut from the same blue with the ivory shadow so this card will go to NBUS too.

I couldn't let all those little squares go to waste so I made a second card.

There were enough of each color to alternate and add the letters from Memory Box to spell out 'happy birthday'.  I found the blue stripe and olive and blue polka dot in my stash.

I'm so glad you dropped by today.  I hope your week is going well.

Color Hues #67

My friend Marcia has picked some great masculine colors at Color Hues.

I don't have any merlot cardstock so I made my own.

I  used Altenew's Rhodolite and Tanzarite from their jewel tones collection on Concord and 9th die cut plaid.  I love a good plaid and think it makes great cards for the guys in your life.  In order for the sentiment to show up I stamped one from Altenew in tanzarite on a white strip.

I'm so glad you dropped by.

Color Throwdown #748

I don't know what's gotten into me.  I normally have trouble with color challenges but this is the third time in four weeks that I've played at Color Throwdown.  Last week I was guest designer.

I took advantage of a Concord and 9th clearance sale and got the Plaid Card Front dies.  This is the thin one cut in blue.  The barrel and flowers are on loan from a friend after I commented on a card she made, asking where the barrel came from.

Thanks for dropping by.  Have a great weekend.
