Just Us Girls #827 - Word Week

The Just Us Girls challenge is wide open as Vicki has chosen this as her word for the week.

There are so many ways you can go with this theme that I expect to see a lot  of cards in our gallery.  One thing that means summer to me is something I happen to have just the stamp set for.

That's right!  What's summer without s'mores?  This S'mores set is from The Greetery. The graham crackers were cut from Kraft cardstock and the marshmallows were colored with Distress Inks in Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap and Gathered Twigs.  Don't ask how many combinations I tried to get the look I wanted and this is the best I could do,  The chocolate is done with Altenew's Mocha and Espresso.  The sentiment is The Greetery's Warm and Cozy and the background is an ancient Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder.

Let's go take a look at how Kellianne and the rest of the Design Team put Summer on their cards.

Freshly Made Sketches #725

My Free Form stencil from MFT disappeared and that was what I was going to use for a card for Freshly Made Sketches.  Time to pivot.

The Punch and Pierced Plate from SB was already cut in the folder and made a lovely background for a simple, inked bloom from Altenew's Garden Cosmos, done in Gina K's light and medium Carnation and Altenew's Silver Sprout and Sagestone.  The little sentiment is from BetterPress.

Thanks for dropping by and spending a bit of your day with me.

Color Hues #127

Peach and Teal.  Those are the colors for the Color Hues challenge and I tried a number of things but couldn't get them to work until I decided to go with my usual florals.

Even this card took a few turns until I was happy with it.  It features Altenew's Japanese Anemone stamp and stencil.  The stenciling went fine using my oft neglected CP ink in Apricot and Bellini for the flowers and Altenew Dew Drops and Aqualicious for the leaves. I planned a one layer card but the sentiment didn't stamp well so I used the dies to cut them out.  I love the way they cut in between the blossoms.  Now what about some texture or dimension or just plain interest?  I tried MFT's Itsy Bitsy Polka Dot background stamp in Dew Drop and loved it.  A number of sentiments were auditioned and the BetterPress one fit best.

Thanks for dropping by and spending a bit of your day with me.

Just Us Girls #794 - CASE a Designer

It's the fifth Thursday in October which means it's a CASE the Designer Challenge at Just Us Girls.

My dear friend Michele knows how much I love daisies and gifted me with Altenew's Oxeye Daisy stamp/stencil/die set for my birthday.  I have three cards made from the set to give you options.  Up first is my favorite.

It's my favorite because it's the traditional color of daisies. A little Lost Shadow for shading and some Altenew ink gave me the look I wanted.  What I didn't like was the white outline from the die cut.  Artist Markers to the rescue.  Galactic Stream was the perfect match to C9's Peacock that was cut with an MFT Elegant rectangle.  (It looks darker in the photo).

This one looks more like a black-eyed Susan.  The Starlight marker worked beautifully with PTI's Enchanted Evening.

This is actually the first one I made, using the stencils as they are meant to be used.  On the others I eliminated the shading layer.  Here the image is stamped directly onto a panel which was embossed with the Honey Bee burlap folder before adding to a Saffron card base.

If these cards aren't your style, the Design Team has a great array of cards for you to CASE (Copy and selectively edit).  Pick one, let us know who if it's not obvious, and enter it in the gallery.  We'd love to see how you are inspired by our cards.

Just Us Girls #798 - Stencil Week

Just Us Girls Stencil Week is brought to you by Ina.

This is usually one of our busiest challenges and it's so great to see you loving our stencil week.

Because Altenew's Golden Days flower is so large I made a 5 by 7 card.  It was hot foiled in matte silver and stenciled with Altenew's Sugar Plum inks.  PTI's Plum Pudding was a great match for the card base.  The foiled sentiment is from SB.

Our guest designer Greta and the rest of the design team have some beautifully stenciled cards for you to peruse.  I hope you draw inspiration from them and make a card for the gallery.

Color Hues #119

My friend Marcia picked the colors for Color Hues and they work beautifully for this time of year.  Somewhere I saw a wreath made of gourds and wanted to make one for this challenge.

The dies are Honey Bee's Fall Bounty colored with Distress Inks in Scattered Straw, Fossilized Amber and Rusty Hinge along with Altenew's Warm Sunshine, Honey Drizzle and Red Jasper.  The biggest gourds also have a spritz of Fossilized Amber Distress Spray.  A Honey Bee sentiment and Burlap embossing folder complete the card.

I'm still trying to get my stuff organized after unpacking all I took to Michigan (plus things I bought while there) and in trying to make labels my printer quit.  I guess they're not supposed to last longer than 10 years.  😖  I'm researching new ones and when I decide I'll be back in business.

Thanks for dropping by.

Seize the Birthday #314

While working on another card I had an idea for the challenge at Seize the Birthday - CAS with stencil.

It started with the doily stencil from Honey Bee.  Then it was a matter of picking a flower to go with it and believe me I have plenty to choose from. 😉  I went with SSS Cosmos Duo, cutting them from white and coloring with Altenew's Rose Petal set, starting with the lightest on the stencil and the next two on the flowers.  The sentiment stamped in gray is from Hero Arts.  After it was done I wished I had stenciled in gray but there was no pulling those flowers off the cardstock so it is what it is.

Thanks for dropping by.

Freshly Made Sketches #703

I don't have my dome dies with me so I had to get creative with my card for Freshly Made Sketches.  Karren said we don't have to use an arch frame so I went with an oval.

It's the Stylish Ovals from Spellbinders and I used two to make a frame from dark brown, then layered it on SB Acorn cardstock that was embossed with Altenew's Organic Linen.  The flowers are SSS Icelandic Poppy die cuts that Bonnie sent me in my birthday card. She knows how much I love those dies.  Thanks again, Bonnie. They are colored with Altenew Pastel Sunrise and Canyon Clay ink.  I also inked a scrap and stamped the Hero Arts sentiment in dark brown.

I'm so glad you dropped by.  I love your visits and your comments.

Inkspirational #349

I knew when I saw the challenge at Inkspirational that I was going to have to get creative.  I didn't bring any tag dies with me, or any thread/ribbon.  I went scrounging and found some heavy twine and that meant I needed to make a rustic card.

I cut the pine cone and greens from Honey Bee's Winter Foliage and then pondered what to make the tag from.  Spellbinder's Four Petal Nesting Dies to the rescue.  I used a small circle die from another set and a tag was born.  And why not make a shaped card while I'm at it so I cut the larger size Petal die, inking the edges of both with Rocky Shores.  It needed more so I added the PB script in the background before popping up the tag. The sentiment is from Altenew.

I'm so glad you dropped by.  I love your visits and your comments.

Freshly Made Sketches #678

Cecile has such a wonderful artistic style of card-making and we can emulate that with her sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.

I see an irregular shape superimposed with a flower.  What do I have?

A die from TH that's part of a Mixed Media set was cut in the corner and backed with yellow.  The daisies are from Pinkfresh Studio's Beautiful Blooms colored with the accompanying stencils and Altenew ink.  Topping it off is a BetterPress sentiment from Spellbinders.

Thanks for dropping by.  I love when you visit.

Color Throwdown #821

Whenever a color challenge includes green, you can be pretty sure I'm going to do a floral card.  Such is the case for this week's Color Throwdown.

The flowers are from Altenew's Lush Garden layering stamp set, colored with Altenew inks.  The stitched background is from Honey Bee and the sentiment is a Betterpress from Spellbinders.

I'm so glad you dropped by.  If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope your holiday weekend gave you a chance to be with family.

The Flower Challenge #95 - Reminder

There's still time for you to play along in The Flower Challenge with your stamped flower.

The flower is from a Grateful Heart by Altenew stamped in their Cool Summer inks.  The background is a pierced plate from Spellbinders and their nested four petal die fits perfectly in the center, layered for dimension.

It's your turn to make a card.  For inspiration, please check out what the Design Team made.

The Flower Challenge #95

Another month has rolled around and so has another The Flower Challenge.

This should be an easy one.

The layered Cattelaya from Altenew was stamped in their Enchanted Garden inks.  The background is a coverplate from Jillian Vance mounted over Key Lime cardstock from GinaK.

I hope the Design Team inspires you to make a card for our challenge.

Just Us Girls #741 - Stencil Challenge

The Stencil Challenge is live at Just Us Girls, with our host Stephanie.

This is one of our more popular challenges and I can see why.  Stencils are so easy to use to make fabulous cards.  The only difficulty is choosing which stencil to use.

The PinkFresh Studio Birds on a Branch was hot foiled in copper and colored through the stencil with Altenew inks.  I love the monochrome look of the image and the fact that it can be used as a masculine card.

What stencil will you choose to use?  For inspiration be sure and check out what our guest designer, Bonnie Klass, and the Design Team have made over on the blog.

Just Us Girls #708 - Color Week

Welcome to a shiny new year at Just Us Girls.  2024 brings a few changes to our challenge as you can see by the wonderful new graphics courtesy of Elizabeth and the start date.  We now go live at 12:00 am  Thursday and close on Tuesday at 9:00 pm with the winners' post on Wednesday.  We hope this will give our followers more weekend time to create.  You can check the sidebar of the challenge blog to see the rotation of themes.  Today is Color Week and Vicki has chose these colors for us:

In November I participated in a class called Posy Party Mix that was hosted collaboratively with Altenew and Pinkfresh Studio.  I used one of the designs from that day for my card.

The set from Altenew is called Lovely Camellias and was stenciled using Altenew inks.  The background is navy although it photographed black.

I'd like to welcome Stef Perry as our guest designer for the month of January.  She and the rest of the design team have some wonderful cards using these colors for your inspiration.  I hope you will join in the challenge.

Time Out Challenge #248

It's time for our annual Cancer Awareness/Encouragement/Friendship challenge at Time Out.

We are being sponsored by Jane's Doodles and you will see that some of the Design Team have used a special image that Jane designed just for this challenge.  I don't have the capability of using a digital image plus I had my card made way ahead of its creation.

The dragonflies and sentiment are from HArts stamped with Altenew ink.

We'd love to see your card in our gallery.  The winner will receive their choice of three digital images from Jane's Doodles.
