Just Us Girls #782 - Die Week

Carol Mc is our host for this week's Die Challenge at Just Us Girls and she wants us to use a summer die.

That leaves it wide open for so many ideas but I went simple with my card.

Honey Bee's Flippin' Fabulous flip flops were cut from some of their DSP and the straps colored with an artist marker in Rose Quartz to match.  The same DSP was used for a border behind the 'sand' that was made using Antique Linen Distress Spray.  As you probably guessed, the sentiment is from the same set.

I'd like to welcome Donna Mikasa as our guest designer for July.  She and the Design Team have some wonderful summertime cards to inspire you to enter our challenge.  I hope to see your card there.

Just Us Girls #738 - Color Week

Carol Mc is our host for Color Week at Just Us Girls.

It's a new month and time to welcome our next guest designer, Bonnie Klass.  She and the Design Team have used these hot colors in such cool ways.  Be sure to check them out for inspiration.

It was time to get out my flip flops dies from Paper Smooches.  I cut them with the requisite hot pink and orange, embossing the soles and adding a little flower for decoration.  This is a Monarch card (3.5 by 7) to fit them with a sentiment. That part was easy.  Not so with the sandy background.

It took me four tries to get what you see on my card.    From the top down:  Sand embossing powder which looked perfect before I heated it.  It turned gold.  Next I tried colored textured paste.  Another no. I got a little closer with the third one which I think is Frayed Burlap Distress Spray with too much spray.  I lightly sprayed it again for the final card, wiping it up with a paper towel for a lighter appearance and then splattered with Gathered Twigs.  The sentiment is from Honey Bee.

Thanks for dropping by.  I hope to see your colorful card in our gallery.

Just Us Girls #693 - Photo Week

I'm the host at Just Us Girls this week for their photo challenge and this is what I chose for your inspiration.

Here's a close-up.

There are a lot of elements for you to choose from to make your card.  If you need ideas, check out what the Design Team and our guest Greta have made for your inspiration.  Here is what I did.

My elements include starfish from Hero Arts, sunglasses from MFT, and flip flops from Paper Smooches cut from cork.  They are arranged on a towel made with a stencil and navy ink.  The sentiment from HoneyBee's Flippin' Fabulous is also stamped in navy.

If you are chosen the winner of the challenge, you have a chance to be a future guest designer.  Will we see your card in our gallery?

Just Us Girls #684 - Photo/Moodboard Week

Vicki is our host for Photo Week and has a summery looking photo for this week's challenge at Just Us Girls.

I'd love to have a little cabana on the beach
but since I don't, this is what I do.

I sit under an umbrella. This one is made from an MFT die and a scrap of PTI polka dot and TH woodgrain.  I tore paper for a mask to make a beach with Frayed Burlap Distress Spray.  The clouds are courtesy of an MFT stencil and Broken China DI.  The flip flops and sentiment are from STAMPlorations.

How does this photo inspire you?  The Design Team and our guest TK have a variety of ideas for you on the blog.  Check them out and make a card for the gallery.  You may have a chance to be a guest designer.

Just Us Girls #633 - Color Week

I'm hosting Color Week at Just Us Girls and this is what I've chosen.

I definitely had something in mind when I chose these colors and this is what I ended up making.

The images and sentiment are from a NBUS set from HoneyBee.  I masked off the bottom of the card panel and colored it with Frayed Burlap Distress Spray.  I wanted that sandy look.  Then I masked the sand and colored the sky with Speckled Egg.  The flip-flops were inked with Salt Water Taffy, the straps colored with an artist marker and then clear heat embossed.  I think this will be fun for a summer birthday.

What do those colors conjure up for you?  Come see what the Design Team and our guest designer have made.  I'm sure you'll be inspired to make a card for the gallery.

Inspired By #172

I don't really need a retirement card.  At my age everyone I know is already retired.  But I still made a card for Inspired By.

I started with a piece of Bristol and stamped nearly all the sentiments from STAMPlorations Beach Vibes in light gray.  After inking with Distress Inks, I took a cue from the charms and added the Paper Smooches flip-flops, MFT glasses and greenery, all cut from scraps.

I have a number of other beach and summery cards that I plan to send to my homebound people in July.  I hope they get a kick out of them and that they will bring back happy memories.

CAS Mix-Up August 2020

It's summertime where I live so the prompt at CAS Mix-Up is perfect.

I

don't know why I can't center this image on the 'new' blogger.  It's aggravating.  When I try, it just moves to the top of the post.

This is what I did.

I used Altenew watercolors on a small panel of watercolor paper. to make my background and mounted it on my card base.  I stamped and clear embossed the flip-flops from STAMPlorations and colored the feet with Tea Dye Distress Ink.  The sentiment is from the same set.

Thanks for dropping by.

Just Us Girls #499 - Word Week

It's time for another Word Week at Just Us Girls
and the word chosen by Carol is
For me, summer is time spent at the lake.  Even though the water is usually cold, the laid back atmosphere and the gathering of family and friends is so refreshing.
While I don't wear them (I can't stand the thing between my toes) I love the look of flip flops.  Especially when they are as colorful as these. I stamped the flowers from MFT, colored them with Zigs, and cut them with a PS die.  I used actual sand paper for the sand and inked the sky and lake with Distress Ink.  The sentiment is a NBUS one from STAMPlorations.

Our guest designer Emma and the rest of the Design Team would like to see what represents summer to you.  Want to see what it means to them?  Head on over to the blog, see the wonderful cards they have made and then make one of your own.  You may be our next Chic of the Week.

Addicted to CAS #141

What an appropriate word Jaydee selected for our mid-July Addicted to CAS challenge.  I can't wait to see how you interpret this word.  For me it's days spent at the lake.
Although I'm not a flip flop wearer, I think they're cute and couldn't resist getting this PS die to make summertime cards.   I started by using a Clarity brush and Distress Ink to make a sky and water and then tore an ancient piece of paper with a sand image although real sandpaper could have been an option. ;) I used sequins for the centers of the flowers and printed the sentiment on my computer.

The rest of the Design Team has wonderful cards to inspire you.  Be sure you check them out.
