Double D - Birds

When a challenge includes birds I just have to join.  Birds are one of my favorites to feed, watch and enjoy.  I am especially enthralled with owls (I have a large collection) but any birds bring me joy.  I have a couple of fun ones on my card for Double D. 

They come from MFT's Picture Perfect Party Animals that I stamped last winter when I was at Bonnie's.  They are colored with PolyChromos pencils and placed on paper that was stamped with feathers from Clearly Besotted in Versa Mark for a tone on tone look.

Just Us Girls #530 - Word Week

Ina is our host and the word for the week at Just Us Girls is

I only own one feather stamp and it's an older one from Clearly Besotted.  Here's what I did with it.

The feathers were cut from vellum and heat embossed with clear over Grape Agate ink from Altenew.  I found the paper in my stash and it's hard to describe.  I don't know where it came from and it's sort of a lavendery gray.  Perfect to put the feathers on.  I'm not sure about the sentiment strip now.  I colored it with a lighter shade of purple by running the cube over the cardstock but it faded back way more than I expected and so did the sentiment.  I still think it will make a great Valentine.

CAS Mix-Up - 4th Birthday

Happy Birthday, CAS Mix-Up!  Boy those four years went fast.  I enjoy entering your challenge so here's to many more.

For this Mix-Up using acrylic paint I made this:

Last summer, I did acrylic pours with my daughter, granddaughter, daughter-in-law and sister.  They didn't turn out as well as I would have liked but I did save a few panels that I thought I could use on cards. I copper embossed the CB feathers on one and placed them on chocolate cardstock with a sentiment from the same set.  That makes my mix-up acrylic paint, stamping, heat embossing and die cutting.  Here's what another part of the panel looked like.

Less Is More #371

I made a card for Less Is More  because I needed a sympathy card and sent it out without posting it.  Then I forgot it until uploading other pictures.  I just checked and have 30 minutes to edit the picture, write this post and enter the gallery. 

Clearly Besotted feathers stamped in blue with yellow eyes, both Altenew inks.  Gray through TH stencil and darker gray for PB sentiment. 

How's that for a quick edit and post? 

Papertrey Ink Stripe Challenge

I found a need for a more masculine get well card and the stripe challenge at Papertrey Ink gave me a great format for one.

Watercolor Wonder was used to make the stripes with Cracked Pistachio.  The Psalms quote was added on top with the fussy cut feathers.

Twofer Card Challenge #1

Yippee!  Hip Hip Hooray! Today's the day a new challenge arrives on the scene.  This one is from the creative mind of the fabulous Darnell and is called the Twofer Card Challenge. 

Doesn't that sound like fun and a great way to increase your stash of cards?  Each challenge has a word prompt and a wonderful Design Team to inspire you. This month it is

I have a few feather stamps but I chose this one from Clearly Besotted.

This cheer/get well card has the feathers stamped and die cut.

On the birthday card they are stamped in spritzed Peacock Feathers and heat embossed in gold.

Colour Q #351

I had an immediate idea for a card for Colour Q so even though I'm extremely busy I had to make a card.

I say that but you must know this is my third try.  I knew I wanted the gold feathers with the colors in the background but inking and watercoloring didn't work so I used this PTI Panel to highlight the different colors of cardstock with a CB feather in three, the sentiment and gold paper in the other two.

Muse #131 and CASology #162

The wonderful Carol Mayne is the Muse this week so I just had to play along.  She made this delightful card.

I pretty much copied it using a different feather.

Mine is from Paper Smooches, stamped in Archival Ink and watercolored with Distress Ink.

I'm also going to send this to CASology.  I already entered a card there but I'm afraid it's not CAS enough.  This one should fill the bill.

JUGS #306, CTS Seconds and STB

After I saw all the fabulous cards that Chrissie from Simply One of a Kind made for CAS(E) This Sketch, I just had to give it another go.  Too many ideas, so little time because  the challenge is closing in a few hours.

This MFT Diamond border is beautiful embossed in Verdigris. Add a birthday sentiment from Clearly Besotted embossed in Platinum and another masculine card is ready for the stash.

My next card is for the color challenge at Just Us Girls.

Clearly Besotted takes center stage again with their Fancy Feathers, cut in three of Simon's grays, stamped in black and popped up on Pure Poppy.  Unfortunately once stamped it's hard to tell between the Smoke and Fog.  A scrap of black embossed in white with a sentiment from PIT and Bingo! Another masculine card.  

While I'm at it, I think I send this over to Seize the Birthday. I haven't played their in a while and feathers probably don't qualify as 'things that fly' which is this week's topping but it's still a birthday card.

Inkspirational #86

How about a little grunge for a change?  That's the cue word at Inkspirational this week.  What's really grungy are all the practice sheets I did to come up with this card.

I stenciled, stamped and kissed my way onto some Neenah Solar white with Distress, HA and SSS Ink.  I used the feathers from PTI and kissed them with some PS for interest.  The edges of the slightly smaller panel are distressed and mounted crookedly on some Smoke paper.

Now I'd better get busy.  Except for one, this is the last card I have in my arsenal.  I had my desk all cleaned off to sew, which I did, but now it looks like my mind is going in 15 different directions.  No worries.  I'll pull it together in time for another challenge. ;)

Freshly Made #190

Once in a while you just need a belated birthday card.  My husband is not good about remembering birthdays and so it's up to me to remember and send cards.  I forgot his brother's birthday last week so I made this card using the Freshly Made sketch.

A CB feather embossed in gold is inked with Peacock Feathers and Dusty Concord.  A bit of gold print paper from Michele and the NBUS sentiment from PTI and voila' - a card ready to go.

CMCCC #66

I don't often do color challenges but I recently did the Colour Me! one and I have another one today.

I think the color names may be from SU but I just said they were blue and yellow. ;)

I pulled out my rarely used Clearly Besotted feathers, cut them in a yellow scrap, inked the edges and tied them with some twine.  The white panel is cut with LF stitched rectangle and the sentiment, stamped in Frayed Burlap DI, is from Avery Elle.  It's all mounted on some PTI Blueberry Sky. QACAS (quick and clean and simple for those of you who don't know Darnell's acronyms)

Inkspirational #64

This is a new challenge for me but as soon as I saw the photo on Pauline's blog, I knew I had just the stamp for it.

Isn't this just gorgeous?  The ironic thing was that my brother and sister-in-law were visiting from NC and they have peacocks so Ann brought me a few of the tail feathers.  I had an up close and personal inspiration and color guide.

Using my Fancy Feathers stamp and die from Clearly Besotted, I embossed the feathers in gold and colored them with Distress Ink.  Guess what color?  Peacock Feathers, of course.   How perfect is that?  *wink  With a little Dusty Concord and Shabby Shutters thrown in for good measure. The cardstock is something I had in my stash and matches the teal of the feathers.  I added a little Wink of Stella and an embossed sentiment from PTI and the card was done.  I don't think the photo does it justice.

TO #10, CTS #86 and TCCC #15

I'm off today to visit my son and his family for some work projects.  My daughter will be joining us and we girls will be painting and whatever else needs to be done to finish up projects around their house.  It sounds like work I know but we always have a wonderful time doing it.  Before I go, I have two cards to share with you.

First up is TIME OUT.  I hate to tell you how many times I tried to make a card for this challenge.  Nothing looked good.  I was doing my old "follow the photo exactly" thing and I learned my lesson.  Go with what speaks to me.

I tried strips of nearly matched to the photo DP with feathers of different colors.  I tried paper piecing an arrow.  I almost gave up when I found a piece of paper that gave the essence of the photo and everything fell together.

I cut up the bottom like the opening of the tepee and used that space for my sentiment from HA.  I clear embossed the feathers from Clearly Besotted and colored them with Distress Inks.  I'm happy now.

This next card I made for CASE this Sketch.

I just got an order with a darling dragonfly die and knew it was meant to be.

Isn't  she just precious?  I cut her from colored vellum and sparkle embossed it to give it that shine.  Sorry it doesn't show in the photo.  I cut a body from black and used black sparkle embossing powder on it.  The flower from Memory Box is four layers, two white and two green.  Finishing it off is a sentiment from Penny Black.  Since the colors look lime and aqua, I'm also sending this to The Card Concept Challenge as clean and simple.

Make It Monday #172

Want to look at your stamps in a different way?  The video by Dawn McVey over at Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday features a rainbow medallion that can be made with a variety of stamps.  I don't have a lot of image stamps but I did find one that worked well.

It's my Fancy Feathers by Clearly Besotted.  The smaller feather in the set is stamped with a rainbow of Distress Inks.  It took some thought to come up with a center emblem to cover where the stamps meet in the center.  I had an idea that I loved and then realized it didn't include a PTI stamp so it was back to the drawing board.  I ended up using Splat, stamping the "celebrate" in silver, clear embossing it and cutting it out.  The more I look at this I think I like it better than my original.
