Freshly Made Sketches #691

More poppies today for Michele's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.

This one is from Honey Bee's Wildflowers, cut in colored cardstock and shaded with Altenew inks.  The plaid is from a HB paper pack and the sentiment is a SB Betterpress.

Word Power #2

My niece got married on February 2 and I thought the card I made for their wedding would be a great entry into Word Power's second challenge.

My sister gave me a set from Stampin' Up that included the wonderful sentiment which was the starting point of my card.  Altenew's Framed Die was layered up around it and then the fun began with making the arrangement.  Susie sent me the colors in her bouquet and I proceeded to cut Spellbinder's Be Bold Blooms, Honey Bee's Wildflower poppy and Dogwood blossoms and TH's Wildflower from white cardstock, blending them with a variety of inks to get the colors I wanted.  Susie included a red poppy in her bouquet because it was my mother's favorite flower.

I colored more flowers and my daughter used them to make a similar card without a sentiment but I neglected to take a picture of it.  Lisa was hoping that Susie would frame the two of them together. I do know she was delighted with both cards.

Thanks for dropping by.

The Flower Challenge #79 - Reminder

There is still time for you to make a card for The Flower Challenge with your background stamping.

The Design Team has more inspiration for you on the blog.  Here's mine.

Soft Stone cardstock was inked with the MFT Free Form stencil mask and stamped with a script background stamp from Penny Black. The poppy is from HoneyBee's Wildflowers and the sentiment is from Altenew's Weekend Doodles.

We hope you'll make a card for our gallery.

Festive Friday #117

I made a card for a new-to-me challenge.  Festive Friday.  At least I don't think I've ever made a card for them.  If I did it was a long time ago.  My friend Nancy entered a card and it intrigued me so I went looking and loved the Inspo List.

For my card I chose red, flower and thinking of you sentiment, although I also have die cut and heat embossing.

My poppy is from HoneyBee, cut in white and colored with Distress Inks.  I happened to have the hemstitched oval in my B&P box so I popped it up with several ovals cut from an MFT die on red cardstock.  The sentiment is from The Ton.    One thing about 'thinking of you' cards is they can be used for any occasion.

Thanks for dropping by.

Fusion - Poppy Door

Poppies are one of my favorite flowers and I have several poppy stamps and dies.  That meant I had to play with Fusion for their Poppy Door challenge.

The background is an MFT stencil used with Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide.  The poppy from Penny Black colored with Distress Inks.  The sentiment from PTI was stamped in black on gray which matches the bricks IRL. I wish I had stamped it directly onto the card front but I didn't think of it at the time and it's glued on.  Not easily changed.

Thanks for dropping by.  I love it when you do and even more when you leave a comment.

Just Us Girls #591 - Word Week

I'm the host of this week's challenge at Just Us Girls.  It's Word Week and I've chosen this for our inspiration.

I always like the looks of script stamped lightly behind an image and that's what I had in mind when I chose the word but you can also use script fonts in your sentiments or any other way you interpret the challenge.

I used a Penny Black script background stamp in light gray and then ink blended  gray around the edges before stamping the PB poppies that I colored with PolyChromos pencils.

Our guest designer this month is the talented Chrissie Stokes and she and the rest of the Design Team have some wonderful cards to inspire you.  I hope you'll check them out and then make a card to enter in our gallery.  Who knows.  You may be a future guest designer.

Less Is More #283

The colors of your kitchen.  What a fun way to have a color challenge and that's just what Less Is More is asking of us.
The walls of my kitchen actually look like a card making technique.  I tried to emulate it with Fossilized Amber Distress Ink and it looks more realistic in person than in this photo which is rather bright.  I wavered between owls and poppies for my accent and poppies won.  They are in jugs above my china cabinet - not real of course.  I due cut this one from Memory Box and colored it with Zigs.

I'm hurrying to try to catch up with some challenges and commenting. Being away the long holiday weekend slowed things down, including my creative juices, and I will probably be gone again this weekend.  I guess I'd better get cracking.

TO #10, CTS #86 and TCCC #15

I'm off today to visit my son and his family for some work projects.  My daughter will be joining us and we girls will be painting and whatever else needs to be done to finish up projects around their house.  It sounds like work I know but we always have a wonderful time doing it.  Before I go, I have two cards to share with you.

First up is TIME OUT.  I hate to tell you how many times I tried to make a card for this challenge.  Nothing looked good.  I was doing my old "follow the photo exactly" thing and I learned my lesson.  Go with what speaks to me.

I tried strips of nearly matched to the photo DP with feathers of different colors.  I tried paper piecing an arrow.  I almost gave up when I found a piece of paper that gave the essence of the photo and everything fell together.

I cut up the bottom like the opening of the tepee and used that space for my sentiment from HA.  I clear embossed the feathers from Clearly Besotted and colored them with Distress Inks.  I'm happy now.

This next card I made for CASE this Sketch.

I just got an order with a darling dragonfly die and knew it was meant to be.

Isn't  she just precious?  I cut her from colored vellum and sparkle embossed it to give it that shine.  Sorry it doesn't show in the photo.  I cut a body from black and used black sparkle embossing powder on it.  The flower from Memory Box is four layers, two white and two green.  Finishing it off is a sentiment from Penny Black.  Since the colors look lime and aqua, I'm also sending this to The Card Concept Challenge as clean and simple.

Thanks for stopping by.  I won't be able to visit you for a while but I'll try to catch up when I get back on Thursday.  Happy Creating!
