Freshly Made Sketches #711

I pulled out an older product to make a card for Freshly Made Sketches.

The Joy Wreath from Catherine Pooler was cut from Desert Storm and colored with Polychromos pencils.  One hint: leave the die in the cardstock to color.  I thought it looked rather rustic so I followed the through with that by adding it to some Altenew Spicy Yogurt cardstock that was lightly inked around the edges with Frayed Burlap DI.  The little bow is from Papertrey Ink and the sentiment die is from the wreath set.

I have more than enough Christmas cards made but it's always good to get a head start on next year.  Now I just have to do the inside sentiments and print the labels.  My goal is December 1.

Thanks for dropping by.

Time Out #289 - Inspired By

This challenge at Time Out is an inspiration one.

We want a card featuring your favorite winged thing.  Those who know me know my love of owls and that my card would probably showcase one, although I do have a love for all birds and have a number of stamps and dies that would work.

This cutie is from Gerda Steiner and is colored with PolyChromos pencils.  I thought that was the best way to get the look of feathers.  Once colored, he was masked and the background inked with Salvaged Patina.  Lawn Fawn's Stitched Scalloped Square Frame was embossed with the Subtle folder and popped up.  The sentiment is from the same GS set.

The feathers should be flying in the gallery.  We hope your card is one of them.  The winner will receive $25 store credit to Lawn Fawn and a chance to guest design with us.

I'm also sending my card to The Paper Players #738  CAS - Things that Fly.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown - Week 8

Hey there!  I'm so glad you dropped by.

Have you ever made a retiform card?  That's the technique we are to use for the challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.  I knew I had done it before and when I looked it up it was almost 4 years ago that I made my first retiform card.  Here's number two.

The most difficult part was finding enough Christmas images that had a similar line width.  Five of them came from Reverse Confetti, one from The Stamp Market, one from  MFT and one from STAMPlorations.  The sentiment is from Colorado Craft Company.   I used Pumice Stone Distress Oxide to ink the sections and to stamp the images.  For a vintage look, I colored them with PolyChromos pencils.  There is a video listed on the blog if you want more information although I watched one from GinaK.

Think you'll give this technique a try?

52 Christmas Card Throwdown 37.23

I have a card for the sketch challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

The little deer are from Mama Elephant, colored with PolyChromos pencils.  A black glaze pen was added to their noses and eyes.  The sentiment is from MFT stamped in CP Spruce to match the border paper.

I'm trying to play catch up after being gone over a long weekend.  Crazy how much can pile up in such a short time.

Thanks for dropping by.

Time Out #241

It's time for another challenge at Time Out.

I can't wait to see the funny cards in the gallery.  I'm sure some of them will be a hoot.  I hope yours will be one of them.

I don't often do funny cards even though I like them.  I started with the MFT set Old Friends, colored with PolyChromos pencils.  A scalloped frame die set from Frantic Stamper was lightly inked on the rectangle and the frame cut in silver. The sentiment is from an older set from Catherine Pooler.

Our guest for this challenge is Claire Apostoloff.  You will want to see what she and the Design Team have made for your inspiration.

Lawn Fawn is our sponsor for this challenge and the winner will receive a $25 store credit, so get out your funny sets and make a card.

Color Hues #61

I have what I think is a very cute card for Color Hues and their peach and kraft challenge.

I knew I wanted to use the darling bear from Penny Black so I stamped her on kraft with HA Soft Brown and added some PolyChromos pencil shading.  Her eyes and nose are colored with a black glaze pen.  Then it was a matter of how to add the peach.  I wanted her to sit on something and at first thought of a word die but didn't have one that worked well.  Then I remembered the ancient PTI happy dies.  There are four of them in different fonts. I cut it from peach paper three times and inlaid it into a piece that was embossed with Altenew's Angled Mosaic folder.

I'm so glad you dropped by and hope you are doing well.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown - 11.23

52 Christmas Card Throwdown was really a challenge this week.  I don't do a lot of scenes and have few critters but I did have one stamp set that worked for their 'Snowman and Deer' theme.

Both images are from Your Next Stamp's Snowglobe set but they were too big to both fit in that globe so I made my own using WaffleFlower Nested Domes.  The background was inked with Speckled Egg DI and the figures colored with PolyChromos pencils.  The snowflakes are from PPP.

Double D - Birds

When a challenge includes birds I just have to join.  Birds are one of my favorites to feed, watch and enjoy.  I am especially enthralled with owls (I have a large collection) but any birds bring me joy.  I have a couple of fun ones on my card for Double D

They come from MFT's Picture Perfect Party Animals that I stamped last winter when I was at Bonnie's.  They are colored with PolyChromos pencils and placed on paper that was stamped with feathers from Clearly Besotted in Versa Mark for a tone on tone look.

Thanks for dropping by.

Time Out #230 - Inspired by Words

It's time for the Inspired by Words challenge at TIme Out.  You can use any part of the quote or the feeling it evokes to make your card.

Word challenges are not always easy for me but sometimes an idea just pops into your head and it seems to be the perfect card.

I knew right away I wanted to use these darling bears from Penny Black.  I had to mask off the presents that were in the foreground and extend the dock.  The image is colored with PolyChromos pencils. A heart from EbyE and some paper from Honey Bee finished it off.

AALL and Create is the sponsor for this challenge and the winner will receive a $20 store credit.

If you need some inspiration, the Design Team has wonderful cards for you on the blog.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown 22-32

I got some stamps from a friend and decided to use one for the challenge at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.  They want CAS one layer cards.  I love CAS.  One layer not so much but it was easy with this stamp from Penny Black.

I colored this gift toting cat with PolyChromos pencils and added a sentiment from Newton's Nook.

Thanks for dropping by.  How is your Christmas cardmaking going?

PinkFresh Studio August 2022 Challenge

I had a card background in my B&P bin and when I saw the challenge at PinkFresh Studio I hoped it would work for it.

The Peony Print Hot Foil Plate was used with silver foil on a pale peach cardstock.  I colored/shaded the peonies with PolyChromos pencils, mounted the panel on silver cardstock and added a foiled and die cut Perfect Sentiment.

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.  I love it when you do.

CAS Christmas July 2022

I am way behind on my Christmas cards so I'm glad CAS Christmas is back in full force.  Today's challenge is Santa.  Who doesn't love to see that jolly old elf on their cards?

The Santa is from Rabbit Hole Designs - a prize I won from Less Is More's birthday celebration a while ago.  This is actually the third attempt to color him.  I started with alcohol markers but kept getting outside the lines. 😠 Then I tried Zigs but you know what happens when you add water to red.  So I finally pulled out my PolyChromos pencils.  I'm hoping the texture makes it look like a velvet suit. 😉  I layered up the panel cut with The Greetery's Crimped Frames, put those failed attempts under Santa to pop him up and added the sentiment from the set.

Did you see yesterday's post?  The floor is in and both of us are living to tell about it. 😁

Just Us Girls #639 - Word Week

Word Week at Just Us Girls can be easy or difficult.  This week Nancy chose something easy for us.

I don't have a lot of critter stamps but I am partial to several Gerda Steiner ones I have so I used her darling squirrels on my card.

The tree from Altenew and everything else was masked so I could color the background with Distress Ink.  Then the images were colored with PolyChromos pencils.  The sentiment is from the same set.  I trimmed the panel and popped it up on my card base.

What mammal would you choose to make a card?  Let's go see what our guest designer Fran Wing and the rest of the Design Team thought to use.  It should be a gallery full of cute animals.

TIme Out #210

It's the "Inspired by Words" challenge at Time Out.

I joined in with this card.

I think this puppy from Penny Black is adorable and had to use him on my card.  I stamped him on a panel cut with a curved edge die and colored him with PolyChromos pencils.  The panel was foam mounted onto Neenah Desert Storm on which I stamped the little paw prints and the sentiment from the same set.  It's not often I forget a birthday but it's good to have a card just in case.

Color Throwdown #651

There are four colors this week at Color Throwdown.

This is what I decided to do.

I thought the MFT stencil would make a fun background for the old folks and sentiment also from MFT.  I inked it up with Altenew's Frayed Leaf and splattered  CP inks.  The images are colored with PolyChromos pencils.  I showed my husband because I thought it was cute and he said "Who's that for?"  We're old and have old friends so someone will get a kick out of it.

Thanks for dropping by.

Just Us Girls #591 - Word Week

I'm the host of this week's challenge at Just Us Girls.  It's Word Week and I've chosen this for our inspiration.

I always like the looks of script stamped lightly behind an image and that's what I had in mind when I chose the word but you can also use script fonts in your sentiments or any other way you interpret the challenge.

I used a Penny Black script background stamp in light gray and then ink blended  gray around the edges before stamping the PB poppies that I colored with PolyChromos pencils.

Our guest designer this month is the talented Chrissie Stokes and she and the rest of the Design Team have some wonderful cards to inspire you.  I hope you'll check them out and then make a card to enter in our gallery.  Who knows.  You may be a future guest designer.

Color Hues #20 and AAA Birthday #26

Why I didn't bring any colored paper with me when we came to the lake I don't know.  I guess it was too hard to choose what I may need.  Fortunately there is a wonderful craft store nearby and I picked up a few pieces one of which I used for the challenge at Color Hues.

I stamped the Altenew Wallpaper Art flowers onto white cardstock and then added pencil coloring for shading and the center.  The sentiment is from Waffle Flower, heat embossed in white and cut with the accompanying dies.

AAA Birthday is looking for flowers on a card and so I'm sending this to them to.
