Time Out #231

Welcome to Time Out. This is photo inspiration week and we challenge you to CASE the Designer.

And the designer is none other than the fabulous Gina K.  What about her card inspires you?  I went quite literal.

The stack of presents (and I say 'stack' because it's from Concord and 9th's Birthday Stacks) was heat embossed in white and then colored with Distress Inks.  And what is a Gina K card without a black frame?

Gina is offering a $25 store credit to the winner of the challenge so you'd better get busy and make a card based on her design.  We can't wait to see how you are inspired.

CAS Mix-Up August 2022

My supply of sympathy cards was depleting fast so I got a new stamp and die set called Dragonfly from HoneyBee to make a few cards.   I'm sending this one to CAS Mix-up where the prompt is 'emboss resist'.

The dragonfly was white heat embossed on PTI paper and inked with Salvaged Patina and Wilted Violet Distress Inks.  I thought it was a little too plain so I cut a SSS stitched circle from the center - thank goodness it fit around the ink blending - and popped it up.  The set has sentiment dies so it was heat embossed, cut and inked with Wilted Violet.  

While I had the stamps out I made a few others that will probably pop up on my blog at some time.  You'll have to come back to see. ;)

Just Us Girls #470 - Trend Week

It's challenge two of the new year for Just Us Girls and Vicki has chosen this for Trend Week.

I decided to do faux batik on my card.  I'm pretty sure I've done it before and I love that it takes emboss resist to the next level.

You ink, stamp and heat emboss in successive layers which gives the images different colors.  My leaves are from WPlus9 and Altenew and the inks are all Distress Inks.  I finished it off with a PTI sentiment embossed on vellum in Platinum.

CAS Mix-Up, Watercolor and Christmas

Time is running out now that the CAS challenges are cutting short for the holidays.  I didn't even get a chance to play along with them in November so I'm going to post all three cards together in order to make the deadline.

First CAS Mix-up where the prompt is emboss resist.

I had my PTI Meadow Greens on my desk for another card and knew they looked wonderful white embossed against a bright background.  In this case I used Brushos, with stamping and die cutting.

Next is 'Thanks' for CAS Watercolor.

An older stamp from Penny Black was watercolored with Zigs and backed with an MFT scalloped oval.  The sentiment is also PB.

Last but not least is the one for CAS Christmas using stars.

I still have a wreath I made similar to this and it was my inspiration.  I cut the SSS wreath in two colors of brown to make it fuller, then added the gold foil stars.  The bow is a NBUS die from MFT cut from gold foiled polka dots.  The gold heat embossed sentiment is from HLS.

Muse #170

Things have been busy and I haven't had time to make cards lately but when I saw the card at Muse and the technique Anita used, I knew I had to make a card. I had totally forgotten about the layered embossed resist technique and wanted to try it again.

Anita started with white paper but I didn't want my flower quite so stark so I started with some Sweet Blush and clear embossed the Vintage Flower from PTI.  I inked over the entire panel with Victorian Velvet DI and then repeated the process of clear embossing more flowers.  The second inking was done with Seedless Preserves.  For the final layer, I used the outline flower image and clear embossed them in the background.  The panel was trimmed and mounted on some Autumn Rose cs.  A scrap of the same cs was used to stamp my sentiment in Charcoal.

This is a great way to make a background but you can use it so many other ways.  I have to make a few more using this technique.
