Just Us Girls #776 - Stencil Week

It's stencil week at Just Us Girls and Lisa is our host.  

To be able to use the entire Always Sunshine stamp from Altenew, I went with a 5 by 7 card. 

The Morning Glory vines are so lovely and delicate and I wanted to be able to show them all.  It was stenciled using Altenew inks.  With such a large card I needed a larger sentiment and went with one from PTI's Pen and Ink.

Inkspirational #332

When a challenge asks for a quilt you can be sure I'll be making a card for it.  I had several ideas but for Inkspirational I went with Grandmother's Flower Garden, or a semblance thereof. 

Scraps of patterned papers fill the hexagons on the PTI coverplate, which has been applied to copy paper with double sided sticky sheet.  A little hugs die from SSS layered for dimension finishes it off.  When  you cut a coverplate and only use part of the image, it leaves you with plenty of leftovers.  And you know what leftovers mean.  A twofer.

The original cut of the coverplate slipped so I had to trim it down which gave me the chance to add a border.  This time I used the yellow print from the center of the first quilt for the outside and added a prayer die from SSS.  

Julia from the Design Team mentioned posting a quilt that inspired our cards.  While I do have one, I'm showing the quilt I just made for my granddaughter who is expecting her first baby in March.

The striped fabric around the center is from her graduation quilt and the four plaid squares are leftovers from her baby quilt.  I gave it to her at a baby shower that was held on Saturday.  I'm just glad I found a long-arm quilter to get it done in time.

CAS Mix-Up July 2022

The CAS challenges are back after a brief hiatus and I'm so glad.  I really missed them. Today's card is for CAS Mix-Up - Things with Wings and it's a watercolor challenge. 

I remembered I brought with me some hot foiled butterflies that I did while visiting Bonnie this winter.  To make the background, I used a stencil from MFT and Distress Inks to make an impressionistic garden scene.   The sentiment from Hero Arts is gold heat embossed.

Color Hues #36

My heart is breaking as I watch what is happening in Ukraine.  No country or its people should have to bear the pain and suffering inflicted by a power hungry dictator.  My prayers are with the leader and all its citizens who are fighting for their freedom.

Color Hues has decided to make a double color challenge to include the Ukrainian colors of yellow and blue.  This wonderful card community is showing its support in full force by inundating the internet with cards in those colors.  Here's mine.

I started with the Mondo Sakura from EbyE, watercolored with Altenew paint.  The background is the only blue paper I had with me  (whew) and it's embossed with a coverplate by HoneyBee.  The sentiment is from Hero Arts.

The Flower Challenge #61 - Reminder

Are you helping us celebrate our 5th birthday at The Flower Challenge?  There are prizes to be won and fabulous inspiration to see over on the blog.  Here's this month's theme.

The image is from STAMPlorations, colored with Zigs.  It's cut with a frame from MFT with the top cut off. Using a larger die I cut one from vellum and glued it behind the flowers.  The entire label is popped up on a panel stamped with a sentiment from Altenew and embossed with an Altenew folder.

Twofer #36

The Twofer Challenge has a twist this time.  They're giving us a choice of what image to use to make two cards for two different occasions.  I missed playing with them the last two months but I'm back with a vengeance with a new stamp set from The Greetery.  Needless to say I didn't stop buying while I was gone but it all came to Ohio so I didn't get to play until I got home.

Quite a different look right?  

I made this card first, stamping the flower as it comes from the set.  I mounted it on Nordic Frames, also from The Greetery.

I knew right away how I wanted to use the stamp for a second card but it gave me fits.  This is actually my second attempt at creating black-eyed Susans from one part of the flower.  I masked the blooms and did a wash on watercolor paper before stamping.  The 'cone' is from an Altenew set, the frame from PTI and the sentiment from My Sentiments Exactly.  

I made both cards without thinking about a sentiment.  Bad idea!!  One is necessary to convey two different occasions for the challenge so I scrambled to find ones that would fit on the cards.

Since I used a NBUS stamp set, I'll send the first card to Darnell's second challenge.

Just Us Girls #566 - Trend Week

It's Trend Week at Just Us Girls and Ina has chosen stencils as our trend.

The stencil is Wonderful Wreath from Altenew and I inked it twice in different colors of green, moving the stencil slightly.  The berries are inked in blue, and I added a white gel accent before cutting the panel with Nordic Frame from The Greetery.  

Our guest designers Carol and Melanie have some wonderful cards to share with you.  So do the rest of the Design Team.  I hope you'll check them out for inspiration and make a card for our gallery.

Less Is More #431

I have a few people who need prayer cards so I made one for Less Is More.  

I used two different color greens for the dies from The Stamp Market and Poppystamps and a third for the SSS sentiment.

CAS(E) This Sketch #390

This week's CAS(E) this Sketch was a fairly simple one in my mind.  I need a card for my Sister-in-law who's having a hip replacement the first of the month and this sketch was perfect.

I stamped Weekend Doodles on Bristol and colored with Zigs.  They gave me the light look I was going for.  I heat embossed the sentiment from MSE on vellum and wrapped it around.  EZPZ.

Inkspirational #209

Have you seen the retro photo inspiration at Inkspirational?

Isn't that wallpaper wonderful?  That being said I took my inspiration from the pillow in the chair and the vase of leaves.

I have quite the mix of companies that helped with this design.  The stencil for the background is W&W, the leaves are a combo of The Greetery and MFT, cut from green and inked with Distress Inks. The vase is a scrap of white covered with Glossy Accents and the heat embossed sentiment is from Altenew.  Both the vase and sentiment are popped up on foam.

Peace, prayers and blessings to all of you as our country faces this difficult situation.  I pray that you are all safe, healthy and following the rules to slow down the spread of the virus.

Just Us Girls #525 - Wild Card Week

It's Wild Card Week at Just Us Girls which happens when there are 5 Saturdays in a month.  For that challenge the host gets to pick whatever they want for inspiration.  Nancy has picked this:

I went back and forth about how to go about doing this but ended up with a basic inlay on a CAS card.

The flower is from MFT and the sentiment die from SSS, both colored with Zigs.  I inlaid them in linen cardstock and added the secondary sentiment.

How could I not make a card for a challenge featuring a quilt?  Look what Inspired By has for their photo.

I used my Gina Marie die and similar colors for my card.

After gluing the papers to a square, I ran it through a quilt embossing folder before adding to the card base stamped with a PTI sentiment.

Just Us Girls #509 - Trend Week

I'm the host this week at Just Us Girls and it's Trend Week.

That's right.  I'd like to see a frame on your card.

For my card I used a frame from PTI in gray that I popped up on fun foam.  A little splattering and a sentiment from SSS make a background for the Altenew flowers that I placed half in and half out.

CAS Mix-Up and CAS Watercolor

I got out my Brushos to make a colorful butterfly for CAS Watercolor which is being hosted by Marcia.

When the Brusho panel was dry I stamped and die cut the HLS butterfly.  I added a frame from SSS, some splatters and a sentiment from PTI.

I'm not very good with Brushos.  In fact you could say I'm rather messy.  This time it worked to my advantage because the paper towel I used to sop up my mess was perfect for the CAS Mix-up challenge hosted by Loll.  I've seen Loll do her paper towel magic before (there are a couple of videos on the blog) and I even did it once before.  This time the colors told me exactly what to do.

I glued the paper towel to some cardstock, stamped the Altenew poinsettia and die cut it - the three things required for a card.
